Great set again Gavin. On the shirt tugging shot I noticed you were at 1/320 at ISO 1600 - do you often go that slow rather than switching to ISO 3200 and keeping the shutter speed a bit higher?

Gavin,
Looking at the exif data, I see you shot AV initially and then shifted to manual later in the evening. Would you mind sharing your thought process for using AV and then Manual?
#3 is my favorite.
Thanks,

I try to avoid to come here, in fact i want to get 300 or 400 because of this section and your shots.
500 and 600 because of wildlife and birds section.
This forum truely EVIL (no offensive).
Great photos and always i check your photos, try to post some bad photos as changing. hehe:D:lol:

Great set again Gavin. On the shirt tugging shot I noticed you were at 1/320 at ISO 1600 - do you often go that slow rather than switching to ISO 3200 and keeping the shutter speed a bit higher?Cheers Chris... usually I'd go to ISO3200 for a faster shutter speed... but in this case, it was very near the end of the game, I had what I needed and I was just experimenting a bit.

Too bad tomorrow it will be a Final in our Country for Arabian Gulf Football Cup, i couldn't go to see or shoot because of work and something else, but i gave one of my friends my Camera (1D markIIN) and a lens 70-200 f2.8L IS and 1.4X TC and monopod, i hope he can do something as he is nikonian and i explained to him the controls and functions of my camera fast but i set the camera to the best settings as i think and i hope he can have good photos, the porblem is that i set it to Jpeg(L) as my friend don't care to have RAW and he don't know how to edit RAW, so i hope my camera will not disappoint as the lens is not powerful enough for these matches as i can see from your lenses used.

Gavin, I just noticed the odd crop sizes like 800 x 600 ... hadn't noticed it before ... is there a reason they aren't 800 x 533? Oh, as usual, gnarly captures.

Phenomenal work there Gavin.....#1 and #3 are the top ones for me....timing in 3 is superb!
Great work.....again!Cheers Paul... it was satisfying to note that the light was much improved in the second half... roll on the Spring.

Super stuff Gavin, love No.1Cheers Jim. It was nice to get something in the bag early doors... makes the rest of the match a bit more enjoyable.

#3 is my favorite.
Thanks,Thanks Merciez... the sun was in and out of the clouds at the start of the game, so it was tricky to work in full manual hence Av mode. Once the light had settled down, I switched over to manual.
I try to avoid to come here, in fact i want to get 300 or 400 because of this section and your shots.

Great photos and always i check your photos, try to post some bad photos as changing. hehe:D:lol::lol: Thanks Tareq... I've always been a strong advocate of longer glass for much of my sport work as I prefer the isolation/compression that telephoto lenses provide... but that doesn't mean that good work can't be done with shorter focal lengths.
Another outstanding series Gavin. I really enjoy your work - thanks for sharing.
WTThank you WT.
great photos. I like the goal and red card shotMuch appreciated NeverFollow... it was nice to get a red card shot within sensible shooting distance... the last few I've witnessed have been on the wrong side of the pitch
I never cease to be amazed at the clarity and pinpoint sharpness of your shots Gavin.
Thanks for sharing - seeing the quality of your work really does give mear mortals like myself something to aim at and work towards - although I have a feeling I've a way to go yet!
TJThanks TeeJay... I guess I'm pretty selective about the images I submit to publications. Unless it's a really newsworthy image (vital goal etc), I'll stick with the critically sharp shots only.
Gavin, I just noticed the odd crop sizes like 800 x 600 ... hadn't noticed it before ... is there a reason they aren't 800 x 533? Oh, as usual, gnarly captures. No particular reason Dwight... just trimmed a bit of the top and bottom/sides to tighten 'em up a bit.
Great series Gavin, which league is this? Thanks cwphoto... the match was Thurrock vs Eastleigh in the Nationwide Conference South.
Gavin, this is the first experience i've had with viewing your work, and it is absolutely stunning! These shots are awesome---
