Just bought a 10D. Experimented with taking pictures in RAW format but my photoshop was not able to pick it up. Had to use the Canon program Zoombrowser to view it? Any advice as to how to use Photoshop to process the RAW images? and......What are the advantages taking RAW?

Lots and lots and lots........ of info here from us RAW users and conversion options etc. Do a search, have a read and then post any specific problems. Be prepared to do some work as getting the best out of RAW is not totally simple.

you do not say what version of Photoshop you have...It is only the latest version CS that comes with a RAW converter. or you could buy a plug in for version 7, previous versions to that i am not sure if the Plug in works

a great relativly cheap converter is Breezebrowser http://www.breezesys.com/

hope this helps

Hello!

I'm in the same boat...From what I gather, shooting raw is the way to go for the fine art photographer. Total control of post image without the data loss of compressed jpegs. Look into Capture One LE for raw conversion http://www.c1dslr.com/ I've also heard good things about the raw conversion using the new photoshop CS.

There is a fifteen day trial for the software. Price is $99 if you choose to buy. For me, being new to digital capture and imaging, there is a pretty steep learning curve with all this stuff.

Good luck and let us know how you choose to proceed...

I don't think Adobe sells the RAW converter plug-in for PS7 anymore. I guess they want you to upgrade to CS.....

But if they do, i think i remember that you had to 'hack' it to get it to really convert 10D files. even then, it used the D60 profile, so some thought that it might not do the best job avail. If you have PS 7 and are happy with it, consider not getting PS CS and spending the money on Capture one.

From what I've read, its fine for the snapshot and quick fix, but for anything more then that the better choice is CS or C1 or BB. The link escapes me, but I've posted it a while back in a similar thread. Too much trouble, no apparent gain. Stay away.

Absolutely correct. I had that "Adobe Camera RAW" converter, and I hacked it (very simple, but then I tried Capture One and it's night and day.

This was true of the standalone plugin available for PS 7. The Adobe RAW Converter in PS CS correctly recognizes the 10D.
