John:

I don't understand the lack of response. These are great shots, and well timed. #2 is my favorite.

The save looks great. The first shot looks like it was underexposed and you saved it.. has those 70's look to the colors. Good luck with the High School game, I am sure you will see a difference. Cheers.

John those are nice shots, the little kids don't offer as much action. Mostly bunched up and bobbling the ball. With my little experience I swear by custom white balance and a grey card.

I have seen your other sports shots I know you can get the action.

Canon is great for iso 3200, I hate iso 3200. 1600 is so much better.

I am shooting in a gym where I can get 3200, f2.8, ss 400. Which opens me up to the 70-200. BUT 1600 at f2, ss 400 with the 85 1.8 yeilds much technically better shots.

I look forward to the HS shots.

I used the Canon 85mm F1.8. ISO 800 F1.8 1/640 for both

Yeah, most of the schools I have been shooting in are fairly new and the gyms are lit pretty well.

WOW - that IS amazing!! here is my WORST nightmare this season - this was my son's practice tonight and I touched it a bit - tried a quick (messy and not accurate) custom white balance but I still needed to tweak it in Aperture. The walls are actually a NEON yellow and green - it is AWFUL!!! Just the same, my 85mm 1.8 got this action @ 1/400 and ISO3200. Scaled down it is decent, but bigger... YUK - no detail and still noisy. Enough of my sob story LOL!! I hope for the weekend games and some little rays of daylight through the upper windows to bring in some more light....

If you shot it in RAW you can always mess with the WB and fix it there...although with walls like that you will likely have bad BG's....LOL In this shot the exposures seems wrong as well as the WB. I would also crop out ONLY the kids....once you have it where you want it run it through a oise reducer and it will get rid af the vast majority of the noise and make a great shot...

Nice action. HS basketball provides a great opportunity for action shots. Good luck and use the 85 1.8!
