If I understand you correctly, you want the folder & file names in camera 1 to be different from those on camera 2.

I don't know of any setting on the camera that lets you do this, but, If you connect your memory card / camera to the computer, there is a way:

1.) In Windows Explorer open the DCIM folder on you memory card
2.) Create a new folder eg. 107CANON
3.) Now go copy the last image you took into the new folder (If you are shooting RAW, then copy the CRW and THM file of the last image you took)
4.) Rename the file/s to: IMG_0701.jpg or CRW_0701.CRW and CRW_0701.THM

All done!
The next image your camera takes will be placed in that folder & will be called IMG_0702.jpg or CRW_0702.CRW and CRW_0702.THM

Things to remember:
1.) I used the folder name 107CANON as an example, if you want to use 108CANON as your new folder name then do so, just remember that you will have to call your first file in the new folder: IMG_0801.jpg or CRW_0801.CRW and CRW_0801.THM
2.) You must do steps 3 & 4. Simply creating a new empty folder wont do the trick, as soon as you turn your camera back on it will see that your new folder is empty & delete it.
3.) If you format your CF Card then you will have to perform this all again.

Thanks garethhhhh
I will try that.
Nice website you got !
Thank you

p.s. probably the folders got the same number because I interchange memory cards among cameras.

Or you could just use a renaming tool to rename your files to whatever you want, I use Flash Renamer 4.61, its not very user friendly but it works.
There are probably better ones out there tho... 8)

ThumbsPlus has a great renaming, renumbering feature that I use all the time. It will batch rename/renumber files within a single directory with prefix or suffix as you desire.

My guess.... If I can recal there is two modes for storing the files. One is incremental (naming the folders reflecting the number of picture the camera has taken). The other one always starts a "blank" CF card as if it were the first picture the camera took (100CANON).

So, if you set one on incremental (107CANON and so on)
The other one the other way (100CANON)

You'll alway be able to know witch one took what.
