All you had to do was switch folders it was using. The 30D has file folder selection like the 5D, right? There is an option to tell it which folder to use. After it started using your XT file numbers it would have created a non 30D file (of your XT folder) and by switching to your 30D folder should have started it back to your original file numbering.

One of the strange quirks of Canon is that even if you format the card (in camera) first, a camera will pick up the numbering sequence of the camera the card was used in previously. I had the same problem when I upgraded from a D60 to a 20D. (I now use cards set aside for each camera and don't switch them from camera to camera). If you have no choice but to switch a card to another camera, then format it in your computer before switching it to the other camera, then format it in camera before using it.

I obtained the following method of resetting your card numbering from another forum. This works very well...

1. Set the camera to numbering auto reset
2. Format card in camera
3. Take photo should be IMG_0001 (100-0001)
4. Set camera to continuous numbering
5. Switch off camera
6. Remove CF card from camera and into card reader in computer rename the folder 100CANON to 104CANON and rename the files to IMG_0472.CR2 (or jpg) or whatever the current number of shots taken should be note folder number should match image number 104 = 401-500 105= 501-600 etc.
7. Place CF card back in camera and take a shot, number should be the next one you want in this case IMG_0473 (104-0473).

As you can see you can set things to any number you like.
