I primarily use the 10D and occasionaly borrow a friend's 1D for wedding photography. Ecost.com is selling the lexar 1GB 40x card for $270 and the Sandisk (don't know what speed) for $194. Will I notice any difference using the lexard over the sandisk?

I don't think you'll notice a difference in performance between the 2 brands. The Lexar is USB enabled and their Image Reascue software will work with it...not sure about the SanDisk. You do not need the 40x write speed for a 10d, though. The 10d is not one of the cameras that takes advantage of that. A slower card will work the same.

I've seen the comparisons on CF card speed. In most cases, you will see some speed improvement by getting out of the very slowest x1 or x4 cards and getting into x12 cards. But when you try to get cards that are faster yet, you won't see much (if any at all) improvement. So, if you are paying a premium for x40 speed, you are probably throwing some money away.
Most of the speed issue is about the camera writing to the CF card. A different issue is when the CF card is transferred to the computer. The speeds tend to be related, but not necessarily the same. I think most Canon shooters are more interested in the camera speed writing to the CF card.

Johnny,. in the 1D you will see a huge difference (approx 3 to 4 times faster) in the 10D you will see about a 15-20% increase.. or not much at all...
