Hi All

Seeing all the shots of egrets here reminded I had tried to get this very shy bird on holiday last year. Out of the various attempts this one came up best using RAW I have added below it the 'simply' resized JPEG (I shoot RAW + JPEG) to show the level of crop I did with the RAW file to get IMHO an acceptable bird portrait.

This is using the 70-300 IS @ 300mm f5.6, 1/800 ISO100

C&C welcome ;)

I guess these egrets are all over the world. And that's a great use for a keep off the grass sign. :)

Yes, it is intriguing how many species have very close cousins in different (similar) climatic regions. I marvel at how tame your Chickadees are compared to our extremely nervous and flighty tit species.

As for the sign I would have to have been in a boat to have read it, I had taken a few minutes walking very slowly out onto a short jetty to get that shot and was standing at the end of it ;)

I saw another species doing the 'cattle egret' role on the Camargue mares - not that good an image but shows the interaction of bird and horse.
