Anyone had a B&G injured on a shoot???

The reason I ask this question is because on a recent wedding Jason (Cole)and I shot, we had a bit of an incident.

Where we were shooting there was a ledge (about 1m high, as seen in 3rd shot - behind the scenes 3, post) which we had got the Groom to step down then pick up the Bride to help her down, What he didn't realise was that the ground was rough and uneven and as he stepped back whilst holding his new wife in his arms, he lost his footing and fell flat on his back pulling the Bride down on top of him. He was very lucky that he didn't injure himself or the Bride.

This is a place we shoot all the time and never had this happen before but it has really made us think how we give instructions in the future.

I must say it definately wasn't funny at the time but at the reception it was a real talking point and we had a great laugh with the B&G

Has anyone one else had anything like this happen???

shoot...no...but I did set my tripod up beside the sea and while arranging the group shot the tide came rolling in a lot faster and further then I anticipated - I ran into the sea shoes and all and just as it was tipping managed to grab with one hand my tripod! I was shaking it was that close. All I could think of was all the images 300+ on the memory card!

i dont normally shoot weddings (i have shot 2 as favours to friends)
i was at a wedding when i was about 14/15 years old and the groom fell into the lake

the ceremony had just finished and the B+G were signing the paperwork, on a table about 2.5 metres from the lake.
the celebrant needed to get through so the groom took two big steps backward and ended slipping into the lake, he wound up drenched from head to toe

edit - my memory sucks - it was actually the celebrant who fell into the lake, he took two steps back to let the groom through to sign the wedding certificate

I had a bride fall overboard on a boat. She was so busy decorating the out side of the ship that she slipped and went head 1st into the lake. Luckily she was still in her civilian clothes, as it was two hours before the wedding. I ran over and helped pull her out of the water. She cracked a few ribs and wound up suing the reception location. It's funny, but I made sure that I only gave her shots where she was smiling and happy :D on her wedding day.

Weddings are complicated to organize and pull off and so many times people want to do everything themselves. The moral of this saga is to tell them to delegate to close friends important tasks. And like Corey says buy insurance!

totally. There are many high end locations here that won't even let you shoot unless you have 1 million in liability coverage.

If someone gets injured on a shoot, it's usually me. I like climbing, crawling, jumping, whatever and often end up falling on my butt. All in the name of a unique shot...

And the groom says, "That depends. What's she suffering from?"

I've never seen a bride and groom injured. I did have a Maid of Honour pass out on the alter and she missed the corner of a piano by maybe an inch! Now I tell the wedding party that I want them to drank LOTS of water, and that it's much better to be standing there, wanting to pee, than passing out on me!

At another wedding I went to the bride's house and the M of H met me at the door and said, "We have a problem.", and I thought, "Upset bride, been there, done that." But then she told me that half the wedding party was sick. The best man, the bride's mom, and three or four more key people. They said flu, but I figured it was food poisoning.

Anyway I suggested to the M of H that she speak to the bride and that I'd photograph what we could today but maybe we should plan on doing some additional photography tomorrow. The bride was more than happy with that and after some photography there, off we went to the church.

In Canada the documents are signed during the service, and it's a shot that is very important here. I like to do a recreation of this shot when the ceremony is over to insure a clean background; and I can also drag the shutter, pose the B&G and so forth. Well I was doing that when the groom turns a lovely shade of green and says, "Dad fetch me the Gravol from the car ..." at which point I declared victory. I thought that he was going to be lucky to get through the rest of the day and me buzzing around wouldn't help.

I just asked that they call me the next morning so I knew what to expect. Sure enough the next day at 8:00 the phone rang. Now SHE'S too sick! We ended up taking the groups and the B&G formals on Monday morning!

I later pointed out to the bride that in a lot of ways it was good that so many people had gotten sick. With six to ten people down, there was no doubt that it was illness. Had it only been her mother, that would have been an editorial opinion!

The bride really held up well on the wedding day. It wasn't until they came over to pick up the proofs that I found out she had cracked three ribs. She must have been running on pure adrenalin. As far as I know she didn't take any pain killers at all. The wedding went on as scheduled. The biggest problem was getting her dried off and her hair and makeup redone. I pullled off a complete set of formal shots in 30 minutes.

Anything can happen at a wedding, and most of what happens is out of your control any way. In the past 25 years I have seen it all. I learned an new level of compassion and patience I never thought I had, but it's been and incredible ride!
