I came across this at http://www.edealinfo.com/ It's $99.00 after a $30.00 rebate plus Radio Shack ships free over $50.00. It looks pretty interesting.

And how fast does 512mb for example download TO the unit its self?

I've seen that exact unit sold under a different name. It is an X Drive by Vosonic. There have been many threads about it.

There was a thread on this very same item yesterday. See this thread.

I didn't realize there was such a huge difference: FYI:

"USB 2.0 specification, boasts transfer rates that are 40 times faster than USB1.1. In today's world, even the average user uses applications which are more bandwidth hungry than when USB1.1 was first developed. So the data transfers of 480Mbps are much more suitable for applications such as digital photography and faster broadband Internet connections."

dpanicc1 & hickory,

Thanx guys. Found the rebate and ordered one. Correct me if I'm wrong but, time (USB 1.1 VS 2) is not an issue. Even if it takes 20 minutes to download a gig of files.

Whaler, let us know how you like it. I will most likely get one too. I agree with you by the way. Even though there's a huge difference in speed between 1.1 and 2.0 it's still very fast fast and one could always, say, read this forum while downloading.

I have one of the old Vosonics VP-2030 units, and it takes around 7 minutes to transfer one 256MB CF card to its hard disk. Note that the hard disk component can have widely differing speed times itself, so YMMV.

And if you sign up for their own Mastercard they will deduct 20.00 off of the sale. I just did that at their local store.

Yes Tom, I applied for their credit card at the store and they took 20.00 right off of the sale, so I paid 109.95 for it and then I'll get a 30.00 rebate.
