Is there a reason you don't see refurbished DSLRs on the market? I searched a bit trying to see if there was a market for refurb 1Ds's but couldn't find a single one. Do they not get sent back or what is the deal? I figured there must be a sourcce for real Canon refurbed stuff, similar to the Sony refurb products.

I can't believe that after 70 views there isn't anyone that has a source for refurbed DSLRs, specifically 1Ds's. Is it really that hard to find one, or did I miss something so obvious that no one will answer the "stupid" question?

I am not sure about refurbished cameras but, they do have lenses from Canon that have been refurbished.

Totally speculation, but I can think of two reasons why you don't see a lot of this.

The retailers may have a fit because refurbs dilute their sales. In the tool world, Black & Decker was forced to discontinue selling refurbed tools at their factory store in Hampstead, MD because the prices were so low that customers came from as far away as Virginia to buy DeWalt tools at rock-bottom prices. The big retail guns got wind of this and forced B&D to discontinue that. A month or so later, online sellers had them advertised. :?

Large quantities of refurbed items indicate (at least to me) that there is a large failure rate, or at least a large return rate. This can be interpreted as lower quality.

It can also mean higher frequency of buyer's remorse. There are a lot of people purchasing DSLRs who have absolutely no business owning one. They want the camera to do the thinking for them, and ultimately abandon the too-complicated ‘professional equipment’ for the tried and true P&S. I witnessed two such returns in recent weeks. Some people simply have no idea what they’re getting themselves into.

I can think of a third reason...

It is fairly common for manufacturers to issue "refurbished" items to customers who's original items fail whilst under warranty. The failed items are then "refurbished" and put back into the support loop. It may well be that this is what Canon is doing.

I have seen refurbished Canon 1Ds on B&H, check them for refurbished things.
