I think you've done great with this set...

The colors are very rich and the composition is right on!

Thanks.

I didn't have a tripod so I bucnhed up my jacket and used that (so a lot of straightening was required!).

Pretty good for a no tripod shoot :)

Is that a hot pixel - shot 3 sky?

That last shot is very good with nice exposure to say you didn't have a tripod.

perhaps could use a ND to cut down those hotspots, but otherwise very nice, esp. for no tripod!

Thanks all.

Neil - I doubt that's a bad pixel, I would have noticed it before. Probably a star. If it is it's the first one I've ever caught in London!

Alec - I'm not sure how a ND would help. I would still get the same exposure, but with a longer shutter speed/larger aperture. Or am I missing something?

 Cool. I was wondering how you had got away with using a tripod in Traflagar Square. The tripod police come along and tell you off if you try to use one! As neilyb pointed out, nice job for an improvised support. It must have been pretty difficult to adjust the composition. One thing I find difficult with shots like these is controlling the hotspots. Things like lights burn out whatever you do, but other hotspots can be controlled - I do like to use the histogram with hotspot warning to make sure I haven't clipped any important highlights. The shadows can be relieved in pp.

Nice shots!

I love the sky in #2. The pillar in #4 is somewhat troubling to me, it leads the eye out of the frame. All-in-all, great work, especially since you didn't have a tripod.

Thanks, that's a good point about the hot spots. Next time I'll tone them down with levels.

The sky seemed to be lit up by spotlights - lucky because otherwise having a large area of empty darkness would have ruined the image.
