After a little fall from my hand, when I slid the front Lens Cover of my S70 open the camera turns on but it easily turns off when the lens cover is just touched or even when the camera is lightly shaked. I see that the switch that keeps the lens cover fixed on the complete open position became very weak after the fall.
As where I live the Canon Service doesnīt repair this model I would like to see if I can do this by myself.
So, I would like to know if someone can tell me if I have to open the casing of the S70 to have access to the Lens Cover inside to fix this problem. If so, how can I do this ??
Will I need a parts diagram ?? If so, would someone have a parts diagrams available ??
I used to be good for this kind of repairs with film cameras (Olympus Stylus).
Maybe I have to re-adjust some contact that has been bent a bit and lost connection.
Thanks in advance and good luck for me.

I have the S80 myself and luckily I haven't actually dropped it yet, altho I have 'dropped' it but I always been aware to have the camera strap around my wrist since I had an experince with another camera previously.
Dealing with it can be tricky and if your one to tinker with it to fix it (like most guys) then I imagine nothing will stop you. Since it is the S70 that you have, I wonder how long you have been using this model and if you have anything to lose if you decide to crack the case open? It may be a simple contact issue and likely it might a challenge to get a diagram of the camera if you want one.
Depending how far and hard it dropped, you might have other upcoming issues if anthing else got jarred out of wack to some degree.

I am also very carefull and use to have my cameras always strapped around my wrist all times. But for a moment it wasnīt and, unfortunately, it happened. As I need this camera for my work I always have a spare one that I am already using for the first time (another S70) and as it happened I am already looking for another one to buy. Either a S60 or S70. The problem is that it is not easy to find these cameras available on the stores since they are discontinued, but I am still looking for.
The reason I use this model is the wireless remote control capability. As a hang gliding instructor I use to attach the camera on the wing to take in-flight photos using the wireless remote control. Although the S80 is another great camera, unfortunately, it doesnīt work with a remote control. Another very useful feature of the S60 and S70 is the great wide-angle.
So, you are right. Since I thought that I can fix it, it will be difficult to change idea. It didnīt drop too hard, the camera is working well and I believe that it is just a simple contact that has to be fixed. I think that the most difficult will be to unscrew all screws. Once the case is open I believe that it will be very easy.
I would like to know if there are snap closures and if I need some force to open it.

Hi,
I'm also a hang glider pilot using the S70 wing mounted.:)
Unfortunately mine dropped out of my harness this weekend and sand got in the door mechanism, so I also need to get into the door mechanism.
Did you ever figure out how to do it?
Bruce.
