PLEASE HELP ME OR I WILL DESTROY MY COMPUTER WITH A CLAWHAMMER.
I CAN INITIALLY DOWNLOAD PICTURES NO PROBLEM. WHEN I TRY TO VIEW THEM, ZOOMBROWSER FREEZES. IF I CTRL/ALT/DEL AND CLOSE A PROGRAM CALLED MSQSRV32 I CAN THEN VIEW PICTURES WITH NO PROBLEM. THE PROBLEM IS THAT IF I TRY TO DOWNLOAD PICTURES A SECOND TIME, MY CAMERA IS NOT DETECTED. THE ONLY WAY TO SOLVE THIS IS TO REBOOT MY COMPUTER AND REPEAT THE ABOVE STEPS. MY SPECS: 750MZ, WIN98, 256 RAM, ZOOMBROWSER 4.1, 64 MB VIDEO CARD.
I SUSPECT GREMLINS ARE INSIDE MY COMPUTER BUT PERHAPS THERE IS A RATIONAL EXPLANATION.

Win 98 :( ? Format and re-install everything will probably do the trick, but move up to at least Win 2000 if you can.

SURELY, THERE MUST BE AN EASIER WAY THAN WIPING MY HARD DRIVE AND REINSTALLING EVERYTHING. ALTHOUGH I HAVEN'T SEEN ANYONE ELSE COMPLAIN ABOUT THIS PROBLEM I HAVE. I HAVE TRIED REINSTALLING ZOOMBROWSER, BUT NO SUCCESS. FOR ME, FORMATTING IS THE LAST OPTION, MAYBE I WILL HAVE TO DO IT THOUGH.

first pf all does zoombrowser support Win98?
perhaps you need to update to service pack 2?
your problem sounds like a USB port problem... do you have the correct usb drivers installed?

Yes it supports Win98, but only with the TWAIN and not the WIA-driver.

ok so zoombrowser should work fine on win98
if you google MSQSRV32, you get people suggesting it maybe spyware/virus related... do you have/use up-to-date virus checker and spyware checker?

Probably You may try a memory card reader to download your picture & then view the image through Zoom Browzer.
My ZoomBrowzer EX doesn't work in my clone desktop; but it works well in my Dell laptop.
Is your Windows 98 a copied OS?

I do not have the internet where I live because there is no phone connection, so I don't think I have a virus problem. My windows 98 is the original version that came with my system. In my device manager i don't see any USB conflicts, but I'm wondering if Windows is locked into a default USB driver or won't recognize the canon driver. Or maybe it has something to do with my AMD chipset ?

Well I think it's safe to say that this is not a problem with Zoombrowser per se. It seems to be a problem with the OS, possibly driver/usb related.
Have you tried reinstalling the drivers?
Have you tried reinstalling zoombrowser?
How did you work out that killing the MSQSVR... would fix the problem?

I have tried reinstalling Zoombrowser and the drivers. I realized that it was msqsrv when my computer froze, because ctl/alt/del showed that it was not responding. I'm not sure what msqsrv is, but doesn't the 'ms' mean microsoft ?

Just to let you know, I have the same PROBLEM
MSVEGA or whatever locks up whenever I disconnect the camera, or turn it off.
I have almost the same specs as you, 650 AMD, windows 98 etc etc
I haven't found a solution to it, but i think it has something to do witht he USB ports.
I just got tired of it, so I bought a USB CF reader drive.
I hope you fix it, beause I just gave up.

This site may help you out: http://www.windows-help.net/windows98/troub-25.shtml
It explains what msgsrv32 is, common errors, and troubleshooting steps. Another thing you may want to try is to perform a system file check. To do this, click START, click Run, type: SFC and click OK. When the System File Checker window opens, click Start. This will show you any corrupt system files, and it will prompt you to restore the file from your Win98 CD. Good luck!

i thought the problem was with msqsrv not msgsrv...
(althóugh I agree that it could be USB related)

I'm sure that was simply a typo.

Try upgrading Zoombrowser to the 4.5 version. It's worth the try.

The program i am having trouble with is called msqrsv32. It seems there is another file called msgrsv32 that can also cause problems. I still think this problem is related to the usb/motherboard/driver files. My zoombrowser version is fairly current (4.0), and if I had the internet at home then i would download the latest one and give it a shot. Anyway, maybe I will just buy a card reader and see if that improves the situation. Thanks for helping everyone.

I have the same problem and have just posted a message to this forum. Have you solved it?. I also use windows 98 but with a pentium III. I am using zoombrowser version 4.6. How is the cardreader going?

Just a guess...but you might check to make sure you have Windows 98SE (Second Edition), not the original Windows 98. Many current software applications will support the SE version of Win 98 but have problems with previous iterations.

gravephoto, I have been experiencing other computer problems since a power surge fried my power supply, so this weekend I formatted my hard drive and reinstalled windows and hardware drivers. Guess what ? Same bloody problem  Canon were useless at trying to help originally a month ago. I think the only way around it is to buy a card reader as someone suggested here. I finally have some money and the inclination to do this, so maybe in about a week I will find out. Good luck.

MSGSRV32.EXE is a Windows subsystem that handles input/output operations of the computer.
For whatever the reason, when the camera is unplugged the computer fails to complete some operation. You might want to check in safe mode for ghost/duplicate cameras under 'Imaging Device' of device manager.
also have you tried running Windows update recently? http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/
The only two workarounds is to:
1) leave the camera connected (turned off) until you wish to turn the computer off.
2) Use a CF Reader

Or upgrade to XP - best thing I ever did !
It's so much better than Windows 98SE at recognising new hardware and Zoombrowser works on it for me without any problems at all.
Many people complain about XP but I find it much more stable and after all the problems I had with Windows 98SE, I'd never go back !
