Portrait shoots supplied with frames

Do you guys just charge for a print or do you supply with a high quality frame with it?

Anyone know wheres best place to get this stuff in the UK? Do you hunt out locally or strike a deal with a shop, or get a batch of frames online?

I know wedding photog tend to charge per prints, but portraits tend to come with a frame and they are generally well expensive

Spicer Hallfield do some fab frames and groovy mounts, never used them for frames though.

In the old days when I ran a portrait business I used to use a local importer of Italian frames for high end stuff. But I used to actually dismantle cheap prints to use the frames for low end stuff. I could buy framed 20x16 prints wholesale cheaper than I could buy comparable quality frames. The local importer also made their own range of stuff. I was gutted when I started getting serious again and found they'd gone bust.

At the moment I only buy frames as gifts and tend to buy from somewhere local (dependant on budget).

Here in Dallas, Texas there is a frame shop that gives you really good deals on frames and prints mounted and everything for one very low price. He gets you quality, not the cheap stuff. Pictures come out very nice, colors are vibrant and gets you any size you would like. I believe his website is http://www.artframewholesale.com

i seen on some photographers site how when doing a protrait shoot, they supply it with a framed photo. Surely it wont be cheap stuff?

Is there anywhere in the UK that people use?

If I went for a portrait to be done, say, with my family I'd expect the photog to talk about what sort of frame I wanted... if any, as some clients will have a frame at home they want to use as it may already match their decor, or for other reasons.

I'd get a relationship going with a picture framer or manufacturer, you might be able to secure samples of their frames if you deal exclusivley with them. That way, you can show a client what frames you can supply with the print.

I think a lot make money on using good frames too not just the processed photos

Have a look in Wilkos (Wilkinsons), they have some frames which are surprisingly good looking for not much money ...but make sure you check meticulously before you buy, as quality control is not good from frame to frame. Other options for cheap frames are The Range and Ikea.
