Post your rarest bird photo from the wild (Not captivity/zoos) and any info you have on the pic and the species
Mine is a Whooping Crane from 1/20/2007 taken at Hiwassee Refuge in TN. In 1941 less than 20 of these birds were known to exist. Today through human intervention there are as many as 500 birds in the world. These birds migrate through the US in winter and return to their home in Canada for the summer. Currently there are only 4 known to be in Tennessee.

Quite a shot Allen. I don't have any really rare birds to post, until that guy flies back to Wisconsin next spring. There are two flocks that summer over here, so maybe I can get some shots of them. :)

From where I am, the rarest I've been able to capture is Lovely Matilda - the Masked Duck. Probably the most photographed duck in Florida last year.
Taken last year @ the Viera Wetlands, Viera, FL. For more info, please follow the link. http://www.mbr-pwrc.usgs.gov/id/framlst/i1680id.html

Wow, tough to top either one of those birds for rarity! Are those radio tracking devices on the Whooper?

Here is my rarest bird so far, a Groove-billed Ani. They are fairly common in the Lower Rio Grande Valley and in Mexico and occasionally wander north along the Texas Gulf Coast. This one, which was a life bird for me, was shot in the Quintana Neotropical Bird Refuge, south of Freeport, TX in October 2006.

Sat tracking. Post the rarest bird you have or your hardest to get one if you don't have a rare one so everyone can join in

Well , I have the same bird as Allen! So I will not bother to post the shot. But it was quite exiting to have seen this rare species and to be able to photograph them.

This my rare photo for San Diego County, the Clapper Rail. This is considered "extremely rare" in San Diego and very local in distribution. The rarity is most probably due to habitat destruction.

the rarest bird that I have had the pleasure of photographing is not really a rare bird within his known range but when 5 of them showed up here in Ottawa this past fall , I got lucky while sitting on the beach at Andrew Haydon Park when all 5 landed within 10 feet of me ,,, as far as I know I am the only one to get photos of this bird
