Here are some shots I took at the Melbourne Big Day Out on Sunday - I shot 19 bands in all and will post more or links to more sometime next week.
Minimal PP - all shot JPG with 70-200 f2.8L - EXIF should be intact. Enjoy!

Thanks everyone.
livewire - I did have a blast... even managed a few beers and to catch up with a lot of people when I wasn't actually shooting. I was shooting for a publication who arranged a photo pass for me... that's how I got to shoot the show.
Re #3 - there was a lot of doubt whether anyone would get anything usable of Tool. One of the best music photographers in Australia is shooting the whole Big Day Out tour and said that in Auckland everything he shot of Tool was crap and that he didn't bother taking a frame of them on the Gold Coast or in Sydney because Maynard stands at the back of the stage, basically no lights for the first song (1 song rule for Tool) and that he waited until it got dark before taking the stage. We got lucky in Melbourne! Even though we had to wait until it was near dark and had to shoot wide open at 3200 ISO to get anything usable.
Re #5 - I took a lot of shots of Muse, was very difficult to narrow it down but I liked that one a lot.
FWIW my favourites of the set above are #s 1 and 8 - just goes to show we all have different tastes.

jeez, 1 song, stand in the dark. sounds like a pretty pretentious prick.

It's one song more than The Killers allowed!

Dude, you should see people talk about them on the myspace concert photog forum.
They got a rep as pretentious pricks.
Odds are on our side that they are eventually going to get stepped on, so if they think disrespecting others is okay, then may they get what they deserve.

#3 is nice, but clone out the bunnie, and desaturate the red a bit.
#4 I would have cropped a *lot* tighter. Although it does get a bit boring then maybe...
#5 is nice.
#8 is best.
Get a rocketblower and SensorBrush ;)

hey, good set! trivium gets points deducted for wearing their own shirt ;)
i like the comp and clarity of 5, but the metallic guitar casts a rather weird reflection on the guy's face. the kasabian shot looks to be a tad out of focus on his face (shirt looks to be where the AF locked on, maybe it's just me). last one is very strong.

Thanks for the feedback everyone... and yes Rene I have a rocket blower and brush (didn't notice the dust until I had shot the photos) - your suggestions are appreciated - I didn't clone out the dust stuff due to timing this week... for the publication these are for it's not an issue.

Hey, Rene, watch it ... I've got that same sensor bunny on my 1N! Well, actually, thanks for reminding me ... I'm shooting boxing this evening so I guess I'll give it a wash, sigh. Super images, Richard. I hope when I retire from school that I will be able to try some of this type of shooting.

Thanks Basil - I was as busy as a one legged man in an arse kicking competition!
And yes I did get to enjoy some of the bands and also spent a bit of time in the bar catching up with a few friends as well.

Nice images. I would have liked a bit more variation though (Or a smaller, more selective, selection). Ideally; both. Looks like you shot almost the entire shows with the 70-200...
