Thanks to a couple of recent posts, I've been reading some of your views on portable storage for images. I'd like to know if any of you out there have seen, used or have any knowledge on this particular model.....

If it's as good as it sounds it would meet most if not all of my needs whilst out & about. Particuly as I'm shortly to leave the UK for a 6 month trip in the USA (of course if I'm tempted to buy any 'L' lenses whilst over there it might only be for 4 months!!). As I intend on probably taking a few thousand snaps I need something like this to keep me going. My current laptop is just a bit to big & it would be too expencive to keep on purchasing CF cards!
So I'd really appriciate any help or ideas on how I should solve my storage problem.
Thanks!

For six months.. I might want a laptop with a large hard drive and CD Burner... otherwise,. if that is too much an "X-Drive" type unit is the way to go. There are several models,. I have only used the X-drive,. but any of them should do. For 6 months,. I would think you would want 40GB bare minmum.. and you may even consider two units and copy your CF to both... sort of a poor mans RAID.

I would however take a laptop.
Renaming and working on SO many shots after six months is almost impossible I think.
I usualy take my laptop (on a 3 day holiday ;D) and do some work like renaming and folderising at the evening.

For a six month trip I would vote for a laptop, so you can store them, work on them, etc. However, if your budget can't handle that, I would recommend something like the Flash Trax. You can get these devices with the screen to view them or without, and the ones without are obviously cheaper, but I would not want to go six months without being able to see my pictures. :(
I noticed from your signature you're from the Channel Islands. I have a friend who is originally from Guernsey. Close? He told me about the different sweaters that originated on the islands, and I thought that was pretty interesting. :D
Hope your trip works out well.

I would take laptop AND X'sDrive (II). X'sDrive for on the road storage, Laptop for bedtime viewing, sorting and archiving on CD's. This gives also triple backup copy system if you keep the photos on X'sDrive (twin if you do not burn to CD's) - good to have because Murphy's law does exist.

Hey it's a small world! I too am from Guernsey, a very small island with not a lot to shoot landscape wise so I'm looking forward to snaping away like mad over the next 6 months! You're correct about the sweaters which funnily enough are called 'Guernseys', locals used to know from which part of the island you lived by the varying pattern on your jumper.
So anyway, thanks to those who's given advice, it looks as if I should really contemplate taking my laptop. It's bad enough sorting through & renaming after just 1 day of picture taking never mind 6 months!!
Thanks once again.

As I recall, the Guernsey sweater is the same front and back (sort of like a boatneck), so you can put it on either way. Another Channel Island, Jersey, has their own style, and hence the name for a shirt called a Jersey. See, you can learn all kinds of things here on the forum. :) :D

I am going on vacation for a couple weeks so that should be fine for me. I have never seen an Xdrive, do they copy to CDRom?
I did a search in google but cant find any prices.

Laptop... always with the laptop - it's the only way you can even view a RAW file, let alone adjust it and get an idea of how you can make it look in print.
