first thing you do is upgrade to CS3. don't worry its free for CS2 users

The upgrade is completely free? Really? I thought that there would be a premium to pay. How do people have CS3 already other than the 30 day trial version?

The Beta is free, not the final release.

Ok, forgive my ignorance... what is a beta? And how long can you use it for free?
canonboy

you just register the beta version using your cs2 information, it explains it all on the site

I saw that..I think I will wait, I have had problems with beta's before...let them work out the bugs then I can do and pay for the upgrade...

I haven't bought CS2 yet. Now, I am wondering if I should wait until cs3 is released because maybe the price will drop on cs2?

LOL!
I'm still trying to talk my sister into giving me a copy of her CS2 from work, and she won't 'find time' to burn copies for me...
guess i'll have to wait and buy the cs3 when it comes out. At academicsoftware.com students/faculty can purchase cs2 for like $389... works for me since i'm a teacher

cs3 will come this spring. its a bit glitchy right now, so I would keep using cs2 for your work and cs3 if you have time to play and learn the new features.
Whether to buy cs2 now or wait is up to you, but take this into account.
cs3 can only be upgraded from cs or cs2. ps7 or lower won't cut it anymroe.
the upgrade price is usually around $150
Are the new features worth it for you?
For those doing album design freehand or using InDesign at all, InDesign cs3 will allow exporting of high quality jpeg, a huge and important step.

theres a discussion in another area that came up with the end result that:
-educationa/student versions from Adobe are upgradeable
-teacher editions aren't
just some info to consider, if you can find a way to get the student edition you'll be better off int he future ;)

Is the student edition the same as the regular edition. I have a college student daughter and could get her to get it for me but I want the full version not a trimmed down one.

i guess i didn't know there was a difference in the student and teacher versions. I was under the impression that both could purchase the academic version.... HELP!

as was I. someone else noticed the difference. If you order off the web I don't think they'd be as picky, but I'm not sure.

Just checked a site called ccvsoftware.com and it did not differentiate between a student version and a teacher version. 279.98 plus shipping. You have to send them a copy of your teacher/student ID. My wife is a teacher so that does it for me. Finally something good happening because my wife is a teacher although they are overworked and grossly underpaid for being in charge of molding our youth.

OMG. This forum totally rocks. I was just about to buy CS2 and then someone goes and posts you can get it for like 300 bucks with a copy of a student ID. Umm... I got that in the bag :-) YAY. This week is freaking fabulous and although I am stuck in the house because there are sheets of ice outside, this day is absolutely beautiful. Woooo hooooo. Hehe

Just a thought for those of you interested in saving money on an educational version that if you plan on using the software in a commercial setting - ie. working on paid wedding photography assignments you will be in breach of your software licence and liable to prosecution, should Adobe ever audit you.
Just a thought.

 Does it specifically say that in the software conditions? I thought they just would give us edutators a discount to help out the community so much
italianfemmy

Well, I just found out I can't get it anyway. My girlfriend is a student at a private college and she is a graduate student and she is in research and they are federally funded... that is FOUR strikes.. we're out at the old academic game ;-)

Yes, it is very clear in the licence terms. :)
