Maybe I just have a weird sense of humor, but this made me laugh.
I was reading Canon's financial release for 2006 and came across a comment about their marketing strategy for cameras.
".... we are aiming to expand our market share even further by taking advantage of our strong product lineup, spanning the range from professional to affordable models..."
Apparently even Canon knows their professional gear shouldn't be referred to as "affordable."
LOL

While that is certainly funny, it is also too true.

I'm confused - they aren't saying that their pro line is affordable, they're saying they do professional cameras and affordable cameras.
Where's the joke there?

I'm with Keith R on this one, I fail to see any sort of joke here.
Canon realizing their pro gear does not fall into the affordable range is simply stating a fact not a revelation they suddenly had. I'm fairly new at this but I doubt they have ever marketed a 1 series as affordable.

The joke is they called have called it anything... I personally would have gone with "entry level cameras" or something of that nature.
Dividing their entire product line up between "professional and affordable" simply made me laugh. If you don't see the humor in that, I doubt I can explain it and as I said, maybe it's just me that finds that funny.
Consider this: Canon has an entire line of P&S cameras, followed by what I consider entry level (DSLR) cameras (300D, 350D, 400D, etc), followed by the "middle ground" of 10/20/30D series, and then you begin moving into the professional hierarchy (5D and the entire 1D series).
It's just funny to me that of ALL the terms they could have used, they used "affordable."

It simply says "professional TO affordable models", which means the line-up from the high-end to the entry-level versions - what's so funny about that?

If you don't get it, let it go.

Joke explained: Canon used the expression "from professional to affordable models" which means that their professional gear doesn't fall into the affordable category. Thus, they are implying that their professional gear is not affordable (in other words, too expensive, in still other words, you need to sell your wife and your oldest child to buy professional gear). It's a bad choice of words... that's what the joke is.

Oh, I know what the joke was supposed to be, but reading any humour into it just suggested a misreading, and some confusion, on the part of the OP.
There simply is nothing humorous here, despite the flailing efforts of some posters above to find it.
Canon are saying nothing more than that they make pro cameras and non-pro cameras.
Hysterical...

I found it amusing. Most marketing tries to make everything sound "Affordable." If it is super pricey they market all the perks or great things to make it a more worth while way to spend your money. For Canon to just bluntly draw a line in the "affordable sand" is funny. Thats cool you didn't find it funny Keith, but don't break our backs because we did. No disrespect intended. ;)

Yeah... don't get me wrong Keith. I'm not trying to bust your acorns here (at least not too much)... but your post basically re-inforced WHY this IS funny.
They didn't divide their line into "professional and non-professional" as you wrote... they used the terms "professional to affordable." If something isn't "affordable" then even a professional couldn't buy it (i.e., could not "afford" to buy it).
See the irony?
LOL It's making me laugh all over again just thinking about that.
