Hi guys,
Thought twice about posting these. First pics with camera. I know my focus was off, but the little suckers wouldn't be still and I chose the setting to freeze them if they wouldn't be still. Just was so glad to see the sun and be able to take a picture.:)

Thank you about the pictures. They are really pretty birds. I had seen one before on our pecan tree, but this was the first time I had seen two at a time. They both were males. The female has a white chin.

great looking birds, we all have the same problem with getting a good focus on fast moving birds. Your captures are both keepers until you manage a better shot.

Thanks Treavor,
I hadn't seen this bird until last summer, and I saw him on the same tree. We had seen the holes and wondered what made them.

Thank you Allen,
These were my first shots with the camera and I wasn't sure how to get it to focus on the central spot. Have learned how now. Thank you for your nice comment.

Thanks John,
I appreciate the positive comment. You know when you first start out you feel so lost, but I am learning something every day.

Thanks Don for your positive comment. They were a lot of fun to watch, and they were "talking" to each other. First time I had heard that, but am looking forward to hearing it again.

Always a pleasure to see such a lovely bird and for a first post damn good too. Never be shy about sharing your captures as many still enjoy seeing beautiful animals/birds and the best way to get better is practice and good CC/feedback on your images. That first image is well taken, focus/focal poit is a bit off sure but you have exposed it well which is often alot harder than getting focus. So your off to a fantastic start, I'm certain with practice you will have it mastered in no-time.
Well done and keep up the good work Sharlotte

Wayne,
Thank you so much for your comments. I am a rank starter at this SLR digital camera. Have the Panasonic FZ20, which I was pleased with. It isn't in the same boat with this Canon. I hope I can master the learning curve on this camera. But like you say, practice makes perfect. Just gonna play with it. It means a lot and boosts my confidence to have such nice comments made, so thank you again.
Hope you have a nice day.

Hey Chad,
Good to hear from you. Yes, but I have decided I probably need to break out the medium size bar bells if I am gonna hand shoot with this thing any length of time. I love it!!!!! Thanks for the comments. That really is a pretty bird.

You do realise that the bird is barely touching the tree....with just the tip of one of it's claws?!
Is this a common thing for yellow bellied sapsuckers to do? ;)

Hi Eyelikedurt,
Yes, but I told you the little buggers wouldn't be still. I have one pic where both of them are in it and one is stretching out his leg looking like he is practicing for a ballet. Cute pic.

sorry Sharlotte, i should have mentioned that i wasnt making a criticism, just an observation. They're really great shots, and far better than anything ive produced of wild animals :D I was just thinking you may have stumbled across a new species ;)

hey Eyelikedurt,
Sorry, our wires seem to be crossed. Never thought of it as a criticism, I got a hoot out of it. Told you about the other photo because in it, he looks as if he is dancing and pointing out his toe. Thanks for the comment about the shots.
Love your name of the new species. Think I am gonna write it down. Just think of it, A new species of birds named after me:lol:
