Is there a type of background that works best to change the backgrounds in photoshop. I have hear that "Chroma Key" works best. Also what feather amount do you use?

Chroma Key backgrounds do work well but any plain colour that does not exist on the model will work as well, I tend to use white and then use the background eraser in CS. Chroma backgrounds come into their own in video work where you want to automate the removal of a background in a lot of frames.

Feather depends on the resultion, lighting and a lot of other factors. Start with a couple of pixels and increase it if you find you are in trouble.
