I was bridesmaid and photographer for my sisters wedding (someone else shot the ceremony) - I was never happy with the ring shots as we were so rushed for time...well we were visiting tonight and I happened to have my camera...

Love transcends gravity.

Or is it photoshop? :D

Or is it photoshop? :DI noticed the floating effect right away. I love that shot. If I were to get a capture like this, I would have to mark it as "just luck."

Photoshopt? I don't think so. I think it's light reflecting off the rings and lighting the page so that it appears like light is come from underneath the rings.

Definately luck!! - there is no photoshopping on the images - the only thing I did was slightly crop the first one.

yep - wide open in the second shot. I did notice last night when I was getting these shots that the lens was having a little difficulty focusing. It was a little annoying and concerning. I am hoping it was just my "technique" and not the lens itself as I am about to do my first wedding with it next weekend.

While we are on the subject of their wedding - I have a fave image from that day - but not sure if it 'works'...what do you think?

Maybe if you're trying to portray the bride as the gollum.

Her head is down, she's frowning and the light is harsh. The groom is out of focus with his eyes closed.

But it's very good from the elements of design point of view. The way the contrasts are laid down makes you really concentrate on their faces.

lol - it was a helluva day for harsh light. I know, there is so much *wrong* with this image...but for some reason I like it. Your right, her face is too squinted.

I'm not too keen on her face and the direction that he is looking at her. The ring shots are nice. :)

Surely it's not that bad? Except for the squint, I like it. Compositionally I think it works very well and it's different. What do the B&G think?

I love the ring shots...the B&G well...I did a few grads this year that had that same squint look...just too bright....

Maybe you could blur it or paint it, somehow to use it, I like the shot, just her face with the squint and his is dark...

Yes, I agree with you. If you want a literal comparison, gollum does look worse.
