this may sound like a completely dumb question, well it is but...

how do you make cool logos with your business or simply your name, to use as watermarkings for your photos? Im just curious to see what programs or ways you guys and gals use to create your logo...
because quite frankly mine is poo...its just a font I really liked, in yellow with some bordering and shading...bah

I've done some stuff in Photoshop and/or in Illustrator and used EPS format so it is scalable to clients requirements. Some just had a specific "size" in mind and wanted a rendition of their current logo. There was one I overhauled and did again in PS from a print. Sometimes you can get away with using "similar" type faces but you have to add effects in the end.

It's always client specific; I've done 7 -8 rotations on single characters before cause the clients always seem to start looking for ideas themselves and come back to you for new versions.

It sounds to me like you are looking for ideas and different comps more than the software being used cause inspiration and creativity is what seems to count. Oh, and the unusual seems to work a lot :-)
