The UPS man will deliver the 35 1.4L today completeing the holy trinity with my 85 1.2L and 135L. I hope it's as good as the other two which are fantastic. These lenses have made a real primer out of me.

Haven't seen a holy trinity thread in awhile, congrats as I'm sure they are stunners and that you'll make good use out of them.

Sweet. Hater to tell you you are not there yet, you still need the virgin mary, the 50 1.2L Then you will have the HOLY FAMILY.

congrats!!! im a sucker for speed and primes. do you think that it would be worth trading a 24-70L for the 35L? and if i rarely use my 70-200IS should i trade that for the 135L + another body? what do you think?

show us some pics of those 3 bad boys together!!

I can't tell you ,yet, if it's worth trading the 24-70. I sold my 70-200 2.8IS to buy the 85 1.2L II. I found I was using the 100-400 more. I do love the 135L. It's great on a 5D and a little long on the 20D, but, it gives you a 200 F2 FOV on a crop camera. The entire Trinity is great when you need light,sharpness and great colors.

Dante, can the 50 1.2L be far behind? I have been waiting and watching results on this lens. When it looks as if there are consistently good copies being shipped I will probably give it a go.

Well if you are serous about awesome primes, and it seems you are, then no it cant be far behind. I just got a killer copy of the 50L yesterday. Yikes! Razor at 1.2

And no "holy" anything will be complete without the 200 f/1.8!

Just kidding... congrats on this milestone... I hope to have the 35 one day, but probably won't get the 85.

Question: when you completed the holy trinity, did your camera start glowing white light? I heard thats what happens.

The 35L probably gets the most use from me out of the holy trinity, I find it very useful both indoors and outdoors. Between the 35L and 85L I have no real interest in the new 50L and I'm a gear junky, thats how good they are.

Can you post a portrait shot with your 5D and 35L?

I'd have to look around for one, I'm honestly not much of a portrait shooter.

Don't fret about it too much. Just thought it sounds like it'd be an interesting combo.

Then, you could also go on to the "Four Riders of the Apocalypse" ;)

But that's a lot more costly ! :shock:

Pretty much, but there are variations;
From the EF lens sticky/FAQ

What are "The Four Riders Of the Apocalypse"

In keeping with the "Holy Trinity" tradition, the Four Riders of the Apocalypse was coined by Yours truly to describe Canon's less subtle range of sledge hammer big white beast L lenses.

The Official Four are;
EF 200mm f/1.8L
EF 300mm f/2.8L
EF 400mm f/2.8L
EF 600mm f/4L

However, like the Horsemen in the DiskWorld series by Terry Pratchett, there are alternates,. PESTILENCE which was wiped out with the invention of penicillin can be substituted with POLLUTION, another L horsemen the equally impressive, and interchangeable with the EF 600mm f/4L for making up the complete set of four;

EF 500mm f/4L

And the fifth Horseman CHAOS (who left before the group got really famous),.

Actually it did. I saw a blinding white light, sort of like a tunnel. At the end of the tunnel I saw Freddycr and Charlesu with a host of models to photograph and songforthemoon wanting someone to take pictures of her.
There must have been something in the B&H bubble wrap.

Last week while working in a tight crawl space in the theatre, I stodd up too quickly and banged my head against a steel girder.

I sat right back down and I swear! These same three lenses were circling over my head singing "tweeet tweeet tweeet"

Well that depends. On a crop camera it makes sense if looking for a 85mm feel. I love 50mm.

I don't think the 50L is in the same league as the 35L, 85L and 135L. My 50L is a disappointment....same L color and contrast but not the same wide open razor sharpness of the 35L, 85L, and 135L....for me, the 50L is the Judas!

There are days when I wish I had kept the trinity, but the benefits of my current set-up has proven itself to be more valuable overall. Congrats on your purchase! Now you need to set your sights on acquiring the 50L and turning that Holy Trinity into the Four Horsemen. ;)

Congratulations on that purchase, and a great collection of very fast and sharp primes. I wished my past copy of the 135mm f/2 was sharper at wide-open though. The 35mm f/1.4 was on my mind for a little while, but I found that I cannot work too well with primes, so I stuck to the zooms. :p The 85mm however, is plain amazing. I borrowed one for a little while and was amazed at the quality.

Although OT, I believe there is only one Holy Trinity, and it doesn't involve lenses.

Awesome purchase. Good for you.

And whatever you do, don't listen to Lord Malone or Dante. They both cry themselves to sleep every night after shedding the trinity in favor of lesser glass. One day, hopefully for their sake, they will join the family again.

As for me, the 35L and the 50L hold no allure. Nope. My 85 is stunning, and my 135 will cut diamonds it's so sharp and fast.

Nope. I only do weddings under duress. I've done about 3 total in the last 10 years. I am supposed shoot one this fall, and I've been asked to shoot another this spring (but I haven't made up my mind about that one). I shoot mainly for myself and to make enough cash for gear (product photography, portraits, journalism, glamour, etc.).

Some very rudimentary tests, (not scientific) have shown that the 35 1.4 is the sharpest of the three, 35,85,135. I will have to wait for real world, warm weather pics ,to pass judgement. Anyways the three are fantastic.
