olas,
Canon inks are formulated to work with Canon paper which is formulated to work with Canon printers. You never really know what type of ink is in the third party carts. Playing around with third party paper is no risk, except that you can blow a wad of money on paper and ink until you find the "magic" combination. Different brands of paper will not harm or void your printer warrenty. However using non-Canon inks will void your warrenty. I have fooled around with off brands in a Canon printer (not mine  ) and you can see the difference right away. If you check the local office supply stores. Staples etc. they run sales on ink every once in a while. Seize the moment and stock up. It is not worth the potential problems.

I've also heard that with the reduction in droplet and nozzle size that in the i950 and i960 that non canon inks are likely to clog the tiny nozzles in the print head,.. that part then needs to be replaced for a significant sum. (essentially the cost of buying a new printer when you consider that you will need another $60.00 in Canon ink as well.)

I recently tried remanufactured Ink cartridges for my HP. I ordered from EZink jet. the color cartridge had leaked and when I tried to print the color was all wrong. The Black smeared. I got them both for less than 1/2.. They were not worth that amt. No more cheap non-orriginal for me. The manufacturers cost more but they usually work. I don't need the agrivation for a few %%%

I sent an email to one of the 3rd party ink companies a couple of weeks ago asking them if their cartridges are as good as original equipment (I have an I950), I explained all I do with it is photos, not text of any kind. The response I received was astonishing, I was told to stick with Canon, it absolutely amazed me..

I hope this helps.

Well, All I do is photos. I would seriously think about running any other ink through a i960. My opinion, but I would try to keep using the ink from the manufacturer and the paper to match. There will be slight differences in ink, slight differences in color, smoothness, absorbability...but hey, if all you print is spreadsheets, save the money.

I tries a brand of 3rd party inks cartridges for my i960. The Photo Magenta was horrible - looked like my subjects had suddenly come down with a very bad case of jaundice!

The Photo Cyan was OK, and no difference with black.

The seller was quite willing to refund the cost of the returned Photo-Magenta cartridges, and I'll use up the others, but think I'll revert to Canon inks in the future. BTW, Staples had a slightly better price when purchasing two or more Canon cartridges
