Hi all. hope everyone is having a nice beginning to their weekend.. This weeks theme is no more excuses. Pretty simple if you think about it. Whatever that shot is that you've been too lazy, insecure or just found to inconvenient to take until now it's time to go take it..
For me i'm either going to go get some landscapes in 'heaven' with my snowshoes or take some shots of my lake standing on the lake... .. we'll see. But, it's a bit of a challenge so embrass it and have a good time. The rules are all the same the time periods are all the same. Have fun and happy shooting.. :D :D

I am going to play tourist today. I will visit a place I can't remember I have been before(i might have with school but can't remember it). You know its funny how we all probably don't go see some of the interesting places in our own country even though we practically live right next door to it.

Here is my WWPD work flow, when possible I take several pictures to fit the theme throughout the weekend. Yesterday I took some shots I've been meaning to take for some time, having a new lens helped with that motivation, they are set to up load and our web server won't let us in to synchronize with the web site. Arrrrgggghhhh! I hope it is working by tomorrow evening, I hate it when I have compress and attach.

In the meantime, there are some other experiments I want to try and hope to get to this afternoon. Everyone have or continue to have a great weekend.

The weather today was clear, no clouds, sun was out but it was a bit cold. In any case "no more excurses" not to go visit Kronborg castle. I never been there before and it is only about 1 hour from where I live.

The legend says that when Denmark is attacked by a foreign force Holger Danske is going to wake up and defend Denmark.

Holger Danske lives in a dark dungeon beneth Kronborg castle.

This one is from the dungeons where the prisoners were held captive.

Great shots so far this week! I have no idea what I'm going to shoot... I'll have to put some thought into it.

Tommy, I've been to that castle, its amazing! That dungeon scared the crap out of me! Incredible shots!

I have no more excuses to wake up early and take 2 hour trip so I can get in time for Setsubun'e Festival in Narita, Japan. It is a bean throwing festival, while saying "oni wa soto, fuku wa uchi" or translated as "devil is outside, good luck is inside"
Lots of politician figures, movie stars and of course sumo wrestlers were there.
But got to be careful of obaasan, elderly Japanese woman, when fighting for that bag of bean, I swear they can jump so high and have amazing reflexes.

Everyone wanted to get some from the Sumo wrestlers!

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v514/athedjo1/IMG_7306.jpg

I managed to get 3 bag of beans (I think I snitched one from one of the obaasan), saved my camera/lens, and got hit on the head by a bag of beans.

It was an awesome experience.

Hey Tommy; if Denmark is attacked by a foreign force, can we have Princess Mary back please?

(For those who don't know, Princess Mary of Denmark is an ex Aussie.:D)

Okay...no excuses! I've been meaning to get a photo of moving water (as in waterfall) for more than a year now. Trouble is, Brisbane is in the middle of the worst drought in more than 100 years. I found this interesting water feature about an hour drive from home....

Well....there is a LITTLE waterfall there. <sigh> It will rain again....one day!:(

Paul can you give me an idea of perspective on this shot? How small/big is the hole?

Sure! The camera is pointing straight down from a height of about 5 feet (160cms). The pool at the top is approx. 14" (40cms) across and an incredible 24" deep!

It's called a washpool. There would've been a rock sitting there originally. The water swirls around it and washes out a round hole into which the rock sinks. The rock then gets swirled around and continues to erode out the hole. Because we haven't had much rain lately, it's been left "high" but not "dry".:D

I'm glad that we have some nice artistic shots in the thread this weekend. I'm going to bring the taste curve down a little. :p I've driven past this truck a number of times, and never had a reason to stop. I always thought it needed to be documented, in a sort of sick and twisted way, but never had an excuse to do it. Well, no more excuses, right? ;)

I just got back from taking my shots... Oh, and I learned something new.. apparently some of the little backroads that look a little snowy are really for snowmobiles and my car won't drive on them......

yep, that was embarrassing...

it wasn't my driving.. it was my common sense... you see... I wanted to get this picture and I thought that if I drove up what looked like a little backroad that was relatively clear than I could take it.. didn't work out that well.. But, I did get to ride on a snowmobile... Somehow the gentlemen that came upon me questioned my ability to drive out again in reverse... :o :o

Well there are two cemeteries by me I always wanted to go to. One is refered to as the woodland Cemetery. It has no markers and is behind some houses on a ead end street. The stones were in better shape than I thought they would be, tho there were some that were obviously worn.

The second is in a town called Edgewater and while I've always known where it is I have never been there. An indian princess (whose grave I couldn't find) is buried there as well as prominent families from this area.

Woodland Cemetery:

It was about 17 degrees out when I took these, I didn't have much time to hunt around for the gravestones I wanted. The Edgewater one is between a huge abandoned ALCOA building and a newly developed rental community, sort of stuck in the middle.

no. the car got stuck so I wasn't able to get far enough up the road...:o :o .. But, I do have some nice shots from the day and I'm working on the RAW conversions for the challenge pics.

it's okay... ;) and in all fairness i'll be content to take pictures out the windows.. I believe Dave mentioned something about having to be twenty-five to drive a rental car anyway and i'll be a couple months shy..

Okay, for my No more Excuses I had planned on going up to 'heaven' since that didn't pan out I went and braved the Golf course to get the wintertime version of the shots I took a few months back.. I have before and afters for y'all...

Ever since getting my "new" camera almost a year ago, I've wanted to try it at sports. But I kept putting it off. Now, with no more excuses, I decided to have a go at it, fully expecting my f4.0 lens to be too slow.

The only games I was able to attend were girls' basketball on Saturday at our school district's gymnasium. The gym is old (probably built several decades ago) and its lighting is good enough for playing and watching, but terrible for photography. Even with the ISO set at 3200 and my lens wide open, my fastest shutter speed was 1/125 -- not nearly fast enough.

I took 253 shots of two games (Jr. Varsity & Varsity) and came away with only three shots worth looking at. The rest were disastrous, but funny. The only thing that went well was the custom white balance, which I set before the games started because (1) I recently started using CWB with good results so I now use it often and (2) because I read on the Sports Forum that I should use it. My shots were full of grain and motion blur. On the two below I used Neat Image, but I suspect that I could benefit from lessons. Despite the disastrous photography, I really enjoyed myself at the games -- the kids are so enthusiastic and happy! Our team, the Eagles, won both games.

nice shots, Barbara... The CWB really helped you out there. I don't know what ISO you had set, but those shots looked clean enough to try and go even higher. Next time, just try off a few at really high ISO and just see what you come out with, you might well be surprised. If you have a good exposure, you can get away with it without too much noise.

BLS

Thanks, Pete. My ISO was already 3200 -- as high as I can go. The exposure on most was okay, but a few were underexposed so they were irretrievable (sp?). But even on the ones with acceptable exposure the noise seemed high to me. I used Neat Image on both shots.

I hope to try again this weekend, but in a new gym that should have better lighting. Gee, maybe I can fit that into the upcoming challenge.

Barbara! Don't you see that this is the perfect excuse to go out and buy a new lens?? You definitely need f2.8!

Beth! Yes, I do see that. How about a f1.8? Why settle for a lowly f2.8? And a new camera would be good too!

FINALLY we got our web page working again, sorry I'm a bit late. I've wanted to take pictures of our lobby loft area feature different design ideas for salons. We got a Tamron 17-50 2.8 last week perfect for shooting something like this.

How about "Wide-Open Spaces"? Something that requires us to dust off the old wide-angle lenses to fit a lot of the landscape in. Or perhaps "A Nearby Park"?
