Purchased the SD600 yesterday as a walking around/backup to my XTi and plan some shooting tonight and over the weekend. Just when I have pretty much mastered the controls on the XTi, along comes this little guy with more options than you can shake a stick at. My old brain will never remember all the icons. My question of current users of this (or similar) compacts is how much are you using designated shooting modes as opposed to zoom (I can handle that) and shoot? Related question is that since my shooting is people 25%, scenery 25%, macro 25% and all other 25%, are there a couple modes to practice on and get used to using? Are the specialized modes helpful? Thanks for your help with this. Advising me how you acquired skill with this camera will help. Ed

Well Ed I'm an SD700 owner, but there aren't much differences. If you've mastered the XTi, you should feel pretty much at home in the SD600's manual mode. Granted you can't control everything like on the XTi, you DO have control over things like ISO, WB, slight exposure control, and shutter speeds up to 15 seconds. The pre-programmed scenery modes I find to be a waste of knob dialing. Still it in M and learn from there, it's the best bet to get the most out of the camera.
