most of the time I use evaluative mode...sometimes spot metering...:)

I use partial metering and would be using spot if I had it (20D) and I shoot mostly live music. I use such specific metering to get a reading off the performer's face or something else I want to be properly exposed - if I were to use a more general form of metering I'd probably end up grossly overexposing the performer as the camera would try and expose for the background, which is usually very dark.

i only use spot metering if the background is extremely bright, ie an overcast day with WHITE clouds or a Sunset with the Sun in the background, otherwise mostly i seem to always be in centre weighted.

for me for landscapes i like shooting sunrise so depending on how much of the sun has come up and how much light is on the object i am focused on i will use centre weighted mostly, but i do tend to shoot in all 4 modes and pick the best option when processing.

90% of the time evaluative, 10% spot. Never center weighted average, nor partial.

On the 5D evaluative is excellent.

On the 5D evaluative is excellent.

But I am constantly adjusting my EC from -2/3 to 0. And remember that evaluative in Canon SLRs works like linked partial metering.

95% of the time I'm in manual and use the spot meter. If I use Tv or Av mode I'll switch the meter to evaluative mode.

Evaluative 75%, spot 25% in Av or P.
Partial when using 'M'

I always have my camera (a 20D) set to partial metering.

I don't always use the built-in meter, though. I will use a handheld meter 50% of the time.

75% of the time the dial is in the M mode. Once in a while I will use the P mode when using flash (a Speedlite - NEVER the built-in piece of junk flash). The rest of the time I may use Tv or Av modes.

Spot/partial (depending upon which camera and what the camera has) 100% if relying upon in-camera meter and my brain is merely in snapshot mode.

Handheld incident meter 90% studio work, 1 degree handheld spotmeter 10% studio work.

Handheld incident meter 80%, handheld spotmeter for 'serious work' outside.

Evaluated for landscapes and Partial for birds.

90% evaluative. In difficult lighting conditions, either spot or an incident light meter.

The mode that the capture requires - it can vary - maybe that's why there is more than one.;) ;)
