been playing with gels on a new mid gray BG. This thing eats up the color, it's great.

Simple, have them between the BG light and the camera, and flag off the BG light. (You can see the cardboard flag blocking the BG light in the last shot.

Thanks, they are high, over 10'. It's a 100 year old house (you can sort of see the remnants of the original coal furnace chimney to the left in the last photo.

In this case, it is the box from a drum skin clamped to a tripod head. Black purpose built framed fabric scrims work well too.

Good idea, now you will only need one background and a set of gel to change background color.

It's a few sets of bogen gels. I believe these were the vivid and pastel series. The gels I have had around, the background is new. It picks up color much better than the whites I have used in the past.

Very Cool! I really like the colors. Not to be picky, but on my monitor it looks like there is an area above his right shoulder (on the red pic bg) that maybe didn't get burned all the way? I can see some smudge marks :)
Very nice shots.. I'd like to see some more in different colors!

everything you see is natural light fall off. The BG realy needs to be lit from both sides to get a nice clean background. As you can see form the last shot, I only lit it from one side. I actually reshot it later with a 20deg grid on the gelled BG light and it worked great, only i lost about 5 stosp of light, so i needed to open up and shoot much lower than F11 which meant futzing with everything and I wasn't really in the mood.
