Can anyone help? I would like to buy a Canon MR 14EX Ring Flash, (so that I can use my 550 as a slave), but fitted to my Tamron 90mm Macro Lens. When | have looked at the flash it has a bayonet fitting that looks Canon proprietary.

I have seen Bayonet to 78mm(?) adaptors but the Lens is 55mm.

Does anyone know how to connect the MR 14EX to the Tamron Lens?

Adapter rings for the macro lights are available from Canon for 52mm and 58mm filter threads. Get the 58mm and a stepping ring 55mm to 58mm. That said, I believe a company in the UK makes the adapter rings in 55mm as well.

As BW118 says. But you might want to think about spending a little more for the MT-24EX twin flash. This permits much more control over lighting angle and ratio and does not suffer from the ring highlights of the ring flash. Another advantage is the twin flash has a CF that lets you turn on the focussing lights with a double tap of the shutter button. This is invaluable at very high magnifications.

There is a lot of rambling info about Canon macro equipment at this page.

You will be able to run your 550 as a slave on group C with either flash, groups A and B are the two macro flash heads – halves of rings. I presume you want to do this to light the background behind the subject?

Thanks for the info, I have finally found the Apdator Rings on the internet. I like the idea of using this set-up. Don't suppose you have any idea of the UK manufacture of the Macrolite Adapter Rings that you mentioned?

They are Canon parts, you shpuld be able to find them on warehouse express and other places.

BTW: I have a thought that the 550 might not be able to act as a group C slave just check your manual to see if it can.
