We finally have a little snow. It sure is hard getting the exposure correct with a dark sled on the bright back ground. These are both of my son, taken last saturday.

You seem to have managed it quite well, nice shots.

You might as well wait until next year, because there still isnt much snow around here yet. Hopefully it will come soon as we are leaving in two weeks for a 600 mile snowmobile trip :D

Thanks Mick

Good work! It sure is hard getting the exposure correct with a dark sled on the bright back ground. Then try one setting the exposure like this: Need an exposure crutch? (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=89123)

Thanks for the tip Frank, these were metered from my hand, however I was wearing black gloves at the time :D Its a great idea to 'calibrate' your palm to a grey card to help get the best exposure.....thanks again.

Funny thing, he doesnt think so when I make him drive the 'old' sled so I can drive 'my' new one :D

Let me tell you about an "old sled" that my dad used to make me drive. We had two, and I was always stuck with the less powerful one that was built in 1969 (Ski King), while he got the "hot rod" that was built in '72 (AMF "Skidaddler"). And that was from the early 70's until they pretty much died around '85 of so. The newest snowmobile I've ever ridden was a friend of mine's '76 Artic Cat...and I thought THAT was the deal at the time!

I can't imagine how awesome these newer sleds must be. Don't let your son take that for granted!! Make sure to remind him about how slow and dumpy sleds of the 70's were.

Here's a shot I found online...the second sled from the left is the AMF we own (it's in a barn now and hasn't run for over 20 years).

Wow that shot brings back lots of memories JT....my first sled was a '73 Arctic Cat El Tigre, which in its day was a pretty fast sled (the three inches of track suspension and ski's on leaf springs didnt make for a very smooth ride though). Technology sure has changed. The Fusion above is a 755cc sled that makes about 150hp and has 14" of travel in the track and about 12" at the skis, which makes for a teriffic trail sled and we regularly go for 150-175 miles runs each day we are out. If you havent been out on a sled for a few years, you really should as things have changed so much over the past 20 years.....I will warn you though, its a lot more expensive than L lenses :D
