I purchased a Sunpak powerzoom 40x for my Canon Rebel XT EOS 350D.

I am unable to use the flash in the E-TTL mode. Most of my pictures are whited out by the flash. The flash resets to the TTL mode only. I've checked the manual and everything appears ok.

A friend has the same set up and his camera/flash works fine.

I checked the flash and camera for any set up instructions but failed to find any help with this problem.

Does anyone have a similar problem?

Sunpak makes several versions of that unit, for different camera brands. Are you sure you have the one designed for Canon?

Take a look at the contacts on the bottom of the flash foot. Are they arranged to line up with the contacts on your camera's hotshoe? There should be 5 of them.

Also, make sure you haven't adjusted the Flash Exposure Compensation on your camera.

Thank you for the advise Curtis N.
I know the flash is correct, I'll check the Flash Exposure Compensation.
