View Full Version : What's a daypack that comes with the Lowepro backpacks

Can someone tell me what the daypack is that comes with the Lowepro Trekker II series backpacks. I'm thinking of getting the Nature Trekker II backpack since the Tamrac Expedition 4 that I have now seems to have shrunk in size. :)

Also, the inside depth is listed as 6 inches while the exterior depth is 15 inches! ??? Why such a big discrepancy? That's not all padding, is it?

Thanks.

I believe the daypack is the portion for the non-camera bits of kit that photographers seem to forget they need (e.g. food, water, shelter). That 6" measurement is the camera section while the 15" is the overall depth (height?) with the daypack included.

The "daypack" is a small backback which clips to the main bag or it can be used separately.

That's exactly what it is. It's a very simple knapsack with minimal padding, that straps nicely into the camera pack so they look to be one unit. The camera pack is made really well, with excellent shoulder and waist supports, lots of padding.

Dont get too excited about the daypack. I took the one off mine the day it arrived and have not seen it since. With all the camera gear in it mine weighs a tonne so would not want to add anything else to it!!!!

Leo,
Buy a good set of saddle bags and a small donkey
I have a Nature Trekker too and I doubt if I could find the snap on pack. Like others, it came off on the first day. Great pack and lots of room.

Thanks, guys, for all your responses. It was very helpful. And with IanD's testimonial, I KNOW I can't go wrong with the Nature Trekker II. :)

BTW, I was planning to use it to carry both the 100-400 and the 70-200 with the shades on (backwards, of course), along with the camera. Is the Nature Trekker going to be wide enough to accomodate them both? I have the Tamrac Expedition 4 right now and there ain't no way I can fit them in there.

Leo,
No problems at all. In fact you can place the 100-400 on one side of the pack abd the 70-200 on the other side. In the middle the body with lens attatched, and 2-3 lens with shades.
There will be a lot of space left over so start looking at buying a couple of more lenses to take up that extra space

Wow! Lot's of space left? Hmmm, ya think maybe a 1200mm will fit in there, too, just in case I win the lottery?

Seriously, Ian, thanks for the info. With the 5 lenses I already have, I think I've got all the lenses I need for now although I have been toying with the idea of also getting a 24-70/2.8 and/or a lens wider than the 17mm that I have now.

Or maybe I can just forego any more lenses and use the extra space for a storing a sandwich and a can or two of beer. :D

With summers, the new LowePro Beverage Cooler insert would be right.
I'll take a shot this weekend of my bag and it's collective contents, If I can find the wifes A70

I used the extra pack to hold the laptop. I'm careful not to bang it around as there is no padding, but it works real well to carry everything in one bag. Its nicely integrated. You'll enjoy the Trekker, its solid stuff.

Thanks, ilya! You read my mind. I was just thinking of that at work on my way to my car lugging my laptop with me. I suspected it wouldn't be padded but I think I can buy padded "sleeves" for laptops from someone online.
