Let me know what you think...I've never shot or owned a serious r/c car.

What lens are you using. I am going to assume the kit lens. In which case you did a great job of getting the little buggers even close to focused.
Out of everything that moves mechanically these i would guess are some of the hardest to shoot considering how fast, small, and close they are.
Nice work and Keep at it !

Yeah, unfortunately it is the kit lens, I'll upgrade when I can afford it, whenever that is, they are extremely hard to shoot with a shutter long enough to keep motion blur on an off road track. Thanks for the compliment.

i guess i've never seen such. The kids i know race them on the street here in the neighborhood, but i didn't realize they had tracks for them!
Sweet!

Yeah, it's a surprisingly popular thing. They have meets in parking lots for the road cars and race events at a public park. I only stayed for 2 races about 3 minutes each.

Yeah they are a lot more popular then people realize. I have old RC10GT which is a nitro powered 2WD truck. I havent touched it in year though.
And what you are seeing are VERY different then what you see in the streets with the kids. The one photographed can reach speeds of 60+ mph and there tiny little .21cc motors are making 3+ HP. They are a blast to play with, its just that is can get VERY expensive very quick. Ironically their prices can be quite similar when compared to photography.

Yea, the fact that they can change speeds soooo fast makes them tricky to shoot. It's amazing how much of a beating they actually take.

That's a great job using the kit lens! I used a 70-200 f/4 for these & like it a lot. They are about $500 used.

I've got a few of these, very expensive and adictive hobby (just like photography!)
i currently use a Tamron 70-300 lense while i'm saving for something a bit better
Because i'm more into the cars than the tracks i tend to zoom quite close to the cars and crop quite a lot to make the car fit into most of the picture, a few of my favorite pictures are here ( www.cgbnet.co.uk ) i'm in no way good at this but i'm getting better.
Love picture 4, i really struggle with the side-on shots

Great captures. There used to be an indoor/outdoor track only 10 minutes from my house. Unfortunately it closed before I ever had a chance to check it out.
