I took this the week before last on Ben Nevis (Britains highest peak). Even here you can see vapour trails :-(
Anyway, what do you think?

That's a really good picture Phil! 8)
One thing i could suggest though, is that you use a lens hood next time, there's a bit of flare creeping in there.

Agreed - I must get one for that lens (the 300D kit one). I have one for my 28-135 USM IS and have really noticed the difference it makes. That day had a lot of up in it though so I was trying to keep the weight down & only carried the kit one :-(

Very dramatic, surreal almost. I like it a lot.

I like it but would be interested in looking at the color version.

It is a gorgeous shot. At first I thought that it was IR as the whites and blacks are like ivory and ebony.
It was just last weekend when I watched National Grographics "Ultimate Explorer -- Life or Death on Denali" http://msnbc.msn.com/id/3158832/
You image reminded me of:
- the risks of your sport, and
- my favourite program (and Scottish Blonde) the Munroe Show, plus
- the chuch in Newcastle (near Leith) that had been turned into a mountain climbing school. For $3 you could climb towards heaven via the belfry.
Don't slip.

OviV asked for the colour version, so here it is:
http://www.pbase.com/image/26997725/large.jpg
You can see that I played a lot with the channel mixer when converting to B&W. The reds and greens were boosted and the blue pulled right back, this gives the pseudo IR effect Leighow mentioned.
Thanks for all the comments,

I just noticed that I cropped the blown highlights out of the B&W one.....
.... should have done the same for the colour version :-(

Ohmygod! B&W colour; B&W colour; B&W colour.....
Both lovely shots! Actually, I think I like the colour better and those blown highlights don't make any difference to me. The colour seems (to me) to add a sense of realism and heighten the drama in the shot....
Isn't photography great?

I really like the picture but the unfortunate thing in my opinion is the jet trails. I get the same thing here in Florida. I do alot central florida landscape shots and I am always suprised at how many jet trails there are when I really look for them

Aren't jet trails a natural feature of a modern landscape?
Hmmmm. I hardly notice them, at least not as a problem and am interested to know what the issue is in terms of landscape photography.
