Wont this work for both? It has a cord that goes from the hot shoe to the moonlights??

Note the best way is using the RR1 remotes, 2nd best is the newer RT1 radio transmitter and reciever's from AB and then the third best is ebay radio transmitters. Somewhere in between are pocket wizards.
Just my opinion, and if you have them set right, you only need one transmitter and reciever, the rest can work off slave mode. Remember that a piece of white cardboard behind the recieving AB will sometimes make the optical slave mode work better.
Just my experience and opinion,

Thanks, why do you think that the ABs one is the best? What makes it better than the pocket wizard?
Also why is the older RR1 better than the RT1?

In your title you indicate the "best" way, but in your post you indicate it has to be inexpensive and only needs to "work well".
How about free?
Just put your Canon 580EX on your camera, set it to manual, and the lowest power level and have at it.
At this low power level it will provide insignificant light output for typical studio work of human beings, but likely still enough to trip the built in optical slaves on the Alien Bee flash units.
Enjoy! Lon

I did know about this and even the way to use your pop up flash but I would like something else thanks though.

why bother with wireless in a studio. just use the 15 foot cord to any one of the alien bees.. thats the cheapest, easiest way.
i have pocket wizards that i use and they work great.. and i just ordered the cheapo one's from ebay to try them out. the one's that plug into the power cord.. if the cheapo one's work i'm selling the PW's and buying a nice lens with the money. :)

The RT1 only fire the lights, but both are designed to work with the ABs.
The RR1 set though (if you have one reciever for each light) allows you to control your lights from the camera. Turn on/off modeling lights, adjust power ratios, and all that stuff. About the only thing you can't do is turn the power to the lights off, but you can tell a light(s) not to fire.
The only true negatives to the RR1 set are cost and they have been reporting interference from cell phones in some areas (which is why they are still working on an imporved model). A minor negative is they are not as ruggedly built as I would like.
The pocket wizards will fire lights and I believe you can pick which ones to fire, but you can't change the AB power settings or turn modeling lights on/off with the PWs.

Then get an inexpensive Ebay set.
Check this recent thread for info on that possibility.
