Greetings All
I've been wondering for a while if anyone from East Anglia or South East of UK would be interested in holding a POTN meet? I'm thinking of late March early April as a proposed time scale..........
There are lots of potential sites to meet up at such as Southwold, Hapisburgh, etc.
If anyone is interested in setting this up send me a note and I'll get things going.
Look forward to hearing from you.

Simon, I was thinking of morning in Southwold then off to Happisburgh and it's not too bad a journey..
I've got a good old Tom Tom so we could go in convoy. The good thing is that the spot I photographed the lighthouse from is really good and is in a farm field entrance. No real problems for parking. If anyone is in North Norfolk or reasonably on the way, I could pick them up?

OK guys am thinking that it's a definite for the 25th March and unless anyone else has any thoughts we'll go for Southwold and the Happisburgh.
I'm thinking we should meet in Southwold at the car park north of the pier (time TBD) and when we're done there head off to Happisburgh.
I'd appreciate all those who wish to go let me know.
Thanks

Guys, I did a dry run of this today to see what the logistics would be like. Took me 1 hour 20 minutes to get to Southwold from Bury St Edmunds, then approximately another hour and twenty to get to Happisburgh.
Didn't take any shots at Southwold as it was a grey old day, but there does seem to be plenty to shoot - unfortunately they are renovating most of the seafront. Have some shots from Happisburgh that I will be posting over the next day or two.
If anyone is coming past BSE I'm happy to drive you round for the day to save on fuel - no payment needed, just pay for the parking ;)

Nice one Simon....BStE is where my daughter lives, small world......
Shame the seafront is still undergoing work, do you think it's still a viable place to go? If not we could look to move the first location and still go to Happisburgh as the second.
Will look forward to seeing your shots!!
Likewise for car sharing, I'm coming from Fakenham so anyone on the way more that welcome to a lift.

Either would be great but Happisburgh ligghthouse probably has a limited lifetime the rate the coast is eroding there, could get some good erosion pics depending on weather of course!
Talking of Weather are we going ahead for the 25 March? _ I'll put it in me diary but what if it's peeing it down , a day in the coffee shops?
Ah! Just read the rest of the posts..Southwold is nice but I would have thought somewhere nearer Hapssburg would be better esp if Southwold is under renovation, and also I have a vested interest in finding somewhere nearer - Im not sure my car will do both in one day! :(

Thanks Rog. Might be worth considering an alternative to Southwold...see more below.
Have posted a couple from the weekend here (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=278722) and here (http://www.inspiring-photography.com/forum/showthread.php?t=723)
Nothing special but I'd certainly like to revisit this location.

I think the lighthouse will be ok for the next decade or so, but there are some houses that are in imminent danger - including some less permanent housing right on the very edge of the cliff  Might be an idea to check the tide times before we head down to the beach.
Your point about the weather is a good one. I was out on Saturday - started out nice but on the way to Hunstanton it just clouded over in the most horrible flat grey way imaginable. Sunday was the reverse - it started off that way (so no pics at Southwold - there were opportunities, but I just didn't bother), but late afternoon it started to clear just a little bit.
With regard to Southwold, the peir itself is intersting and in the right light might be an interesting subject. There are beach huts too - but these are spoiled a little bit by the current work. The beach itself is pretty disturbed by the work as well - they seem to have built access ramps for the diggers.
I was at Brancaster Staithe on Saturday - looked like there was a lot of potential there given the right weather and tide (careful observation saved me from being cut off by the incoming tide!). I'm not sure how close this is though.

Missed a lot since I last logged in earlier!!!!
Couple of cracking shots there Simon....really like them both.
Brancaster Staithe is a great place and definitely lots of potential. In fact all of the local "burnhams" that are close by are worthy of a visit especially as "Burham Thorpe was the birthplace of Nelson..........
There are a couple of pics I posted of Southwold and have included them again here to show what it's like on a good day.
So I'm guessing that maybe Southwold is not a good place to be and Brancaster has moved up the league?

Hi
No to be honest as no one else has replied but if there is still significant sea wall work going on a lot of the potential will be gone. A real shame as I personally like the location very much.
Brancaster though is still very nice and a good location if that is the choice....anyone else like to comment?

OK guys since time is pressing on and it would be good to get this sorted, howabout for this meet we go with the Brancaster Staithe and Happisburgh.
If there's enough of an interest, I would suggest that we go for somehwere west maybe EOS might like to suggest a location for the next meet? I've been thinking that maybe we can set up a Eastern Region Club and have meets every few months ... any thoughts?
Let me know how that fits with everyone and we'll look at timings etc. One thing we'll have to watch with Brancaster is tide times, there have been ocassions when people have been cut off in the beach car park there!!
Cheers

Ok guys, did a recce Sunday (in the snow!!) and guess that the best place to meet will be the White Horse pub which is on the A149 from Burnham Market in the East through to Hunstanton in the West.
There's not a lot of parking there but guess we'll get by.
As I suggested in my last note, I would suggest meeting there at 10am.
Bad news for me is though that I may need to duck out as could be off to the US on business but won't know for definite until Thursday..... :(

Rog, shame about the business trip.
Hmm, meeting at the pup before we take any photographs - better have a steady tripod then ;)
If there is limited parking at the pub then we can always use the parking at the staithe - there were lots of people parked there when I checked it out a few weeks ago. Are we still looking at a 10am start? Anyone from the Bury St Edmunds area want to come along in my car? If we are heading on round to Happisburgh, there is a car park on the top of the cliff (safe though ;)).

Blakeney was flooded at the weekend and there are very high tides so we'll need to take care out on the Staithe.......

OK - of those who have expressed an interest in meeting up this Sunday, who is still up for meeting?
Secondary question - would meeting up next weekend be better?
My take on this is that the weather forecast was looking good for this weekend, but now looks like it might be overcast - not necessarily a problem mind you. Next weekend might be rainy!
Anyway, I've just invested in a new UWA lens and the Lee filter system and so I'm keen to get out anyway and give these a run out.

Good to meet you yesterday Simon. As it turned out the tide was further out than when I visited last time - however the onshore wind was making the waves much bigger and the spray round that headland was pretty bad. Impossible to keep the lens free of spray.
Got your note, but I had stayed down on the beach for quite a while after you left so I decided it was time to just head home.
Hopefully we can arrange another meet with a few more people next time. ;)

Sorry to hear your lens got wet - Bet you got some interesting shots though!
Just as well you didn't try to catch us up for a cuppa, the place in Sea Palling was crowded (in MARCH!!!) so we went on to another, 'Poopyland' at Horsey which was closed (in MARCH!!! ) and ended up at quite another just out of Horsey that I hadn't been to before but at least was open and most importantly had decent loos!
You'll have to come over to this neck of the woods again for a better explore.
Hope you'll post some of your shots soon - start a new thread for them?

Glad you were able to get together yesterday and was mightly miffed I could'nt turn up. I'm sat kicking my heels at the moment and been going through some old shots.
I hope this can continue and maybe we can arrange another meet. Look forward to seeing the shots from yesterday.
