I thought some of you might be interested in a newspaper article about B&H that appeared in The New York Sun. You can see it at:

Hmmm... Fun article, but I am a bit surprised that web sales accounts for only %70 of their business. New York alone buys %30 of their goods? WOW!!!

Well considering I spent about as much on my one personal visit to B&H as I have spent to date by phone/internet orders.

If others do as well, then that would quickly explain the 30%.

I was more interested in the statement that they are doubling the size of their retail space. That's going to make it HUGE. Of course I hope most of that is in the digital camera section as that was very crowded when I went.

B&H a New York institute!! I would say they are the main contributer to Credit Card debt in the world.

That’s what I would have thought as well, but the article clearly states that for each in store dollar, two are spent on the web. My guess would have been 10:1 or maybe even 100:1. But then again, it is NY. Mayhap some book cooking happening there.

3500 "foot" customers per day. They all must be buying something.

Great article, thanks a lot for sharing it with us.

They plan to double their retail space? Wow. I doubt I will ever get to NYC, but if I do, this place would be high on my list to visit.

In today's PC world, I found it odd how often they used the term Jew. If the place were owned by Catholics, would it have been mentioned as often?

I was thinking the same thing. One line about them being closed for religious reasons was all that was needed. I do not care who runs the store as long as I get fast quality service.

Don't forget mail order and phone orders. B&H sends out a photo catalog and advertises in many magazines.

You think they'd notice a short, chubby Chinese lady working there? I can do the NYC accent without any trouble. :)

B&H is an amazing store to visit. I have been there a few times and bought my first digital camera there.

What impressed me was that the sales person didn't try to push anything on me. When I mentioned a camera I was interested in he said that was a fine camera but I might also want to consider these other models. I should have taken his advice!

I was told by a friend that the sales people get a good deal of training in their specialties and are not allowed to work on things they are not trained in. This insures top quality advice and it works.

When you walk in the store you are greeted by a mass of people, customers and employees everywhere. There are traffic directors all over that politely ask what you are interested in and where to go to get it.

I was actually surprised that 70% of their sales are over the Internet. They sell an awful lot of high priced equipment at that store.

It is a great place to visit if you ever visit New York. You will leave there very happy and just a little poorer.

MarkExactly.. But wouldn't those also be considered as "out of store" purchases? I would have though that the combination of catalog, phone, web sales would have blown in store sales away. BTW.. I am still thumbing through their catalogs. It kind of reminds me of the old xmas Sears catalog we had as kids. Lots of cool toys in there. :)

I really cannot believe the amount of inventory they must have right there in their warehouse or store. They hardly ever have back orders. It would take me hours to get from one section to another looking at all the great stuff.
