Well I installed the software and uploaded it. Did the setup... played with the paths. I can see my thumbs and micro thumbs when I go to start a new exhibit. What I don't understand is where I place the actual photos. I tried placing them in different directories.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

My "open photo editor" link is greyed out. How do I change this? Did something go wrong during the install?

Also, I can change the paths to view the thumbs and micro thumbs but I still haven't found a way to add the photos to an exhibit.

Here is an example of my folder layout

gallery
gallery/washingtonphotos
gallery/washingtonphotos/large/ (I want this to be my defual)
gallery/washingtonphotos/thumbs/
gallery/washingtonphotos/microthumbs

btw... I uploaded the photos manually with a separate FTP program.

Please help.

Thanks

What EE version do you have?

In short:

Test ftp servers.

Test and approve graphics modules.

Set up resize methods.

Set up path system in path editor. Choose correct ftp server for each path. Choose correct resize method for each path. Use different variable name for each path, except for default sizes use variable name default.

Create an exhibition. Select thumb paths for it.

Set exhibition default data and all other small items like cameras if you wish,

After above you just place your original photos (usually 50% resized or so are enough, saved as JPEG (not save for web in PS; that erases EXIF data)) in UPLOAD folder either by using upload editors top form or by normal FTP.

Then select items in upload form and execute it. EE creates paths if needed, resized and uploads photos, creates thumbs and microthumbs, reads EXIF, XMP and IPTC and then adds the photo to database. It all works by FTP so you should take time to test ftp servers on its own editor.

Inital setup of EE is perhaps more complex than in most programs, but then again you have to do it only once. Certain complexity is there because it allows total freedom in how you set it up, for example the path and resize system is fully configurable to your liking, there are very few in any restrictions. But keep it simple at the start.

All this is explained in detail in http://photography-on-the.net/ee/beta/setup_upload_system.php which I recommend you to read to the letter. It's worth it.

I also offer to set EE up for you (for free) if you have trouble with it. Just PM me your ftp details and address and passes to your editor. I already have couple of those jobs in line, but I should be able to do it all this weekend.
