24th Feb for genuine 40D news?

Canon are briefing UK Pro dealers on upcoming models on Friday 23rd, embargoed till the 24th. I'm guessing the same date worldwide?
So we should soon have more than rumours :)

Well... there is a definite history of information being released in the days prior to PMA, usually 3-7 days before.

Canon may be doing the full press release on that Monday and just giving heads up to get dealers interested and knowledgeable when customers start asking about it, which for some will be about 30 seconds after they tell the dealers :)

Also Canon may figure that this will give everyone the weekend on the internet, which will tend to be a more even playing field or maybe to swamp B&H when they come back up on Saturday.

But a source of the information would be helpful.

I work for a U.S. Pro dealer during off season (right now, I shoot motorsports). If they were to brief us it would be the first time ever. 24th of feb sounds plausable, generally major releases begin 21 days before beginning of show which would be feb 15th. As a rule we are never given ANY warning or training before a product is announced. Too many of us to keep our mouth's shut.

I wonder if they are aware of that and maybe trying to take advantage of it. The information would spread around the photography sites faster than a shot of Britney Spears crotch and free advertising like that must be nice.

One thing all of the manufacturers try to do is issue their press releases so that they are the only ones that day - it gives them the 'sizzle', at least for one day. I don't know if they coordinate with each other or not.

I was also told by a friend of mine who works for Canon to expect news 2 weeks before PMA but even he claimed to not know exactly what was coming out.... he actually has me sold that he really does not know.....

I doubt that many are in the know as of yet. Interesting though that it is coming soon. Speculation seems to have been that there will be on upper end camera combining the two 1D's into one $7K camera. I will take bets against that! I really think they will keep the II N type sports camera as well as the ultra upper end 1D. My .02.

When Canon extended their rebates until the 19th I knew it was because of the annoucements that would be coming soon after. They wanted to squeeze all the sales out they could before the new models were announced. Makes good fiscal sense to me.

Now, the 24th looks good to me. I just hope that 40D is in there as I'm impatiently waiting for it!

Ok so for someone looking to get a Mark II N, wait till after what date? I understand its not good to wait on the next great camera but, from reading this thread we should know something soon huh? Do you guys think it would be worth the wait to wait like 1 month?

I'm told that The David Leung advert in this week's AP (UK) confirms that Canon are announcing new products at a dealer launch on 23 February, and suggests that Focus will see full details made public.

"Public" only if you're riding with Leung's ; they will be briefing passengers during their coach trip up to Focus (Sunday 25th). Remember that there's no Canon presence (again!) at Focus to give out anything official.

With the increase in demand for DSLR capable cameras that have less buttons to control, I'm wondering if Canon will try that market. Using the same interchangeable lenses for EF mounts, but with just P&S settings.
