What do you think is the most outragious but practical feature Canon might unleash on an EOS camera?

ISO 6400...

I would want that more than anything. ESPECIALLY if it has the noise of 1600. :)

I would use it if it had the noise of 3200, but 1600 would be better ;)

you know I don't shoot at high iso that offen, perhaps that because the 10D got to much noise? who knows. anyway I wouldn't mind it. could be handy.

GPS - now available in P&S so not that outrageous.

I would use it if it had the noise of 1600, dont know about 3200 sicnce I cant do that on my camera, but I would bet I would as well...I am about to find out as I am upgradeing to the 30D today...
From what I have seen, as long as you get the exposure right the noise at 3200 is managable...I KNOW at 1600 it is...

What are the uses of GPS in a camera? I'm sure there are some I'm missing because it doesn't seem important.

You have to get focus absolutely spot on at high ISO as noise just leaps out when you use unsharp mask. Trouble is, in low light, autofocus really struggles on anything with low contrast and you are probably shooting wide open.

Knowing where each image was taken would be a great asset to me, especially years down the road, when memories fade.
Have Fun,

Congrats on your 30D. I hope you dont see a 40D come out with ISO 6400 in the next month!
ISO 3200 is usable when you have the correct exposure. Even more like 1600 when you use noise ninja.

If you ever have trouble in low light, have a friend shine a laser pointer on your subject and your AF will never work faster!

LMBO, I won't participate EITHER.
My best guess is the two 1 series will be the Sports and Studio Editions. The big feature will be eye operted auto-focus feature. But, as I said, I am not participating in this thread. Hehehehe.

* Higher ISO shooting, why stop at 6400?
* ISO Priority setting option.
* 3-4x the current dynamic range by using Sensors with photosites that have independently auto adjustable ISO ranges for each Photosite..
user control of amount of allowed adjustment from zero to say 3 or 4 full stops.
This to allow each photosite to either bump it;'s own ISO when it registers all black, or lower it's own ISO when it registers blow out for a given exposure.
* Square or octagonal sensor that allows instant switching from using all of the sensor's pixels, to either a landscape rectangle, or a portrait rectangle.
This will save weight and cost by eliminating the need for a portrait grip. User will have option of selecting either of the two "classic" orientation is the standard aspect ration, or simply shooting the full irregular sensor size, and then cropping to desired orientation/aspect ratio in software.
* In Sensor IS, using the same oversized Odd shaped sensor, user can select all of the sensor to use and get no in camera IS, or can select smaller portions of the sensor, allowing a crop factor and the use of the additional photosites to be used as on sensor IS. Rather than physically shifting the entire Sensor, instead the active photosite on the sensor will shift to compensate for camera shake. As the crop factor selected increases, so can the range of IS movement.

We will make sure to get the hot shoe coffee percolator patented before so, then we can make some money on it.

Have Fun,
Ahhh yes... 32'54" N, 72'25" E what a great spot!
To me a GPS is totally superfluous; when uploading or post processing your photos why not just make sure they are saved in a folder or named in a manner that reflects the subject, when and where it was taken?

if you took a photo of an exotic butterfly it would be useful to some and fun for others to pinpoint the location from the EXIF assuming you hadnt pinpointed the spot in your description of the photo. I have been pressed to give locations for my springtail images by an academic but cant remember them all.

One mans treasure,.
The GPS thing should be so easy. They can fit it into a card fro gosh sakes :)
Which reminds me, the next 1 Series bodies should have a card slot like Cardbus/PCMCIA, for all our expandibility dreams come true, .. GPS cards, Wireless cards (affordable ones like $150.00 ) Ipod sized hard drives in the 30-60GB range.. etc.

A hotshoe mounted coffee perculator
Now that's an idea!
We could use the GPS system that someone else suggested to find the nearest Starbucks!
ISO viewable in the viewfinder
3 1/2" screen
A "beep" when photo is not exposed properly in addition to the blinking (able to turn it on/off of course)
A more visable focusing area in the viewfinder. Something like the old split screen effect.
A much quieter mechanism when taking a pictute
Larger and brighter viewfinder
Digic III of course
Larger buffer
Switchable between 1.6 crop and full frame (you said crazy) Just think of the use of this!!!! I could have both wide angle and telephoto with the same camera!
Auto cleaning cycle
I'm sure I can think of more but that's enough for now.

Did anybody mention having a cell phone built into the camera body? That way, I can answer the phone without having to take my eye off of the viewfinder. I can continue taking pictures even when rudely interrupted by a phone call.

GREAT idea! It would be nice to frame things square if you wanted to instead of cropping a 2:3 image square in PP.
Would it work in the viewfinder to switch orientation from portrait to landscape? The viewfinder would have to be huge to accomodate the different orientations and still show a big enough picture to MF well.

Viewfinder would be same width as current models, just a tad taller. Think of Nikons round eyecups, instead of Canons silly rectangle and were already done.
And just like with AF points etc. a "hud" like outline could show what aspect ration you are set too.
