Photos from a series called "Nocturnal Creatures". I've been covering dance events at one venue here in Dallas for about a year and a half now. Enjoy...

I like the first one, second one a bit too blurry for me.

First one is cool and tells a story. There is not enough detail or context to the second image to communicate much.

I like them both. Could you talk about your technique and equipment? Of course, two images from 18 months of shooting seems a bit frugal. :-)

I was kind of aiming for that on the second one :). lol I wanted capture all the movement going on in the dance area. However, If anyone has any advice for keeping the background a little more crisp let me know. I would have fixed that by using a tripod but I am pretty mobile when at these events.
I would have posted more on the same post but it only allowed for 2 attachements. Most likely I will use this thread to post more pics from this series.
As far as details for taking the pics, the second one was using a 1.5 shutter speed with Aptr at 3.5. The first I cant really tell ya cause I ended up losing pics a while back but had a backup copy on my jumpdrive. I'll post a few more here soon.

Here's a few more:

i would say bring a tripod. sure your are not very mobile, but it would make these slow shutter pictures look ever cooler. at least try a monopod. i don't want to carry a tripod around either (but i'm not doing stuff like this), but the monopod is worth every bit of extra effort.

As mentioned above a monopod would help, but a lens with IS could be helpful here too. I don't know how much help it would be with a 1.5 second shutter speed, but I would think it would be better than without it. Not sure what camera body your using, but the 17-55 2.8IS would be a good choice for a club type venue, but is only useful on a crop body. The 70-200 2.8IS would probably be too long. I'm not sure if there are any others below 200mm in the 2.8 range with IS.
