This may not be the best place to put this. I am desperate for help. I just got a DVD Burner and Roxio Creator 9 and am trying to make slideshows with music, but even though I bought the songs on Napster, I can't use some of them because they protected. I am not trying to mass produce or steal the song, just want to make a DVD for my client. Am I going about this wrong? Is there a different format I should use? Or do I have to knock on George Thoroughgood's door and ask for permission?

Ugh Roxio. I despise that program. But that is beside the point. I use ProShow with decent results. Basically drag and drop, not much of a learning curve. I have not tried Nero for making a DVD like this.
I don't know the encryption on music downloaded from Napster but it obviously has something. I know this wasn't much help but the best I have at 6am.

'preciate it Sp00ks...I wish I had gotten that. I called Dell to get some info and got high pressure sales person and then tried to return it and after much frustration and aggravation decided to just keep the darn thing and never deal with Dell again. I was able to import it, so sure I can put to show, I will keep trying that learning curve! Thanks much for the help.

legally you can't use copyrighted music, even if you bought the cd, you have to get expression written consent from the artist and usually pay a large fee, even if you arne't using it for profit.
a work around if you choose to do so is to convert the mp3 or whatever format it is to a WAVE file, burn it to a cd as a audio cd, then rip the cd as a mp3 and the encryption will be gone.
theres lots of programs that will make them, search for slideshow in the printing forum.

from a purley audiophile standpoint, going mp3>wave>mp3 greatly reduces quality of the music.

If the slideshow is srictly for your personal use and you bought the CD/record, you may use it for slideshows or other re-recordings that are never distributed, sold, or otherwise made available to the public. If it is important to you to have the copyright of your photos protected, then you have to also respect the copyright of others.

You make a good point. I understand. How does a girl with almost -$ get in touch with a record label or artist to get permission to include their song on a DVD to I create to sell to a client with a slideshow of my pictures for $50. I think I have the ability to lock it so it can't be copied.

When you get it all worked out let me know ... I have avoided this just because the overhead of getting it together is so high and I have all the software!
