Maybe the fact that they are impact craters from metors etc? I dunno Mars is closer to the astroid belt then we are, I wouldn't worry TOO much :)

IMO, since you cannot prevent a meteor from crashing into the earth, if it is going to, might as well forget about whether it will. Even an under ground compound wouldn't prevent damage from a direct hit.

I guess we should believe in something bigger than ourselves to place our hope in with this stuff going on.;)

The atmosphere on Mars is thinner then ours. This gives us the advantage in that small meteors burn up before they can make impact. I think it's facinating that our present way of thinking is changing as new discoveries are made.
