Ok guys I am going to pull the trigger and get the pocket wizard plus set and probably the Photogenic 1250 Powerlight. Will I need anything else to hook the PW to the Photogenic, or an alien bees mono, or is everything included? Thanks for all the help.

The kit probably doesn't come with the appropriate cable to connect the Pocket Wizard receiver to the Photogenic. You'll need either Pocket Wizard Cat #804-406 (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=productlist&A=details&Q=&sku=105424&is=REG) or 804-407 (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=productlist&A=details&Q=&sku=105425&is=REG) . If you want to go cheap, I betcha Radio Shack Cat No. 42-2157 which is a 6 ft miniphone to phono plug cable would work. At $3.99 it's a bargain compared to $17.95 for a Pocket Wizard cable.

That catalog number didn't come up in my Radio Shack search.

is the PW just a mini plug (mono), is it 1/8 1/4 I am not too bad of a cheap O but the shipping kills you plus having to wait a week to get the cords.

My bad. I found it.
The PW accepts a 1/8 miniplug. The Photogenic takes a 1/4 phone plug. I hope this cable works with my White Lighting Ultra too. I think the WL plug is different than Photogenic somehow - stereo vs. mono or something like that???

I don't know why a sync cord would need a stereo plug. FWIW, the Pocket Wizard website states that their 804-406 and 804-407 cords work with White Lightning, and these have mono plugs.
Alien Bees appears to use a 1/8 miniplug. Just get a 1/4 to 1/8 adapter at Radio Shack if you want to use the same cord on WL and AB.

I have been using the Pocket Wizard Plus for about 2 years. They work really well. I recently ordered some cords from www.paramountcords.com that go from the receiver to a hot shoe and to a 2 prong electrical plug, so I can use them with my 550EX and Quantum Q Flash.
Enjoy,
Scott

I see the Radio Shack Cat No. 42-2157 is a 1/8 mono to 1/4 Stereo, is this what the Photogenic 1250 Powerlight takes?

can you use a Y cable and fire 2 strobes with one PW receiver?

You don't need to. One strobe is connected and the others are set to slave.

I can't think of any reason why it wouldn't.

Example: Hair light slave being faced away from the rest of the lights. [/code]

There should be enough reflected light to set it off. If not, use a PC to phono plug cord. Plug the phono plug into the strobe, and attach a peanut slave to the pc socket.

No. The PW docs warn against doing this. This would be especially bad if the strobes had different triggering voltages.

OK, just a thought.. besides the peanut slave sounds like the ticket anyways.

I use the PW with Photogenic Studio Max II monolights and the Radio Shack cable mentioned - works great, and indeed a bargain.

Scott, maybe you could take a break from digital photography and just go into the photographic flash consultation business.

If I knew half as much as you and G3 about flash technique I might consider it.

Hell, if I knew half of what I thought I knew, I would be a success.
