jsut a simple question please : I have to send my canon 10D for calibration cause it gives some non accurance in focusing, like I said in a previous thread, items closer to the camera are much sharper than the ones in autofocus point. then I heard that they'll ask to send the lenses with. my lenses are fine and work just great with my elan. how can I be sure that they will be calibrating the camera and not the lenses, well I can figure that out afterwords by puting them back onto the elan , but it'll be too late. do I have to mention that to the technical stuff ? did anyone pass through this rediculous situation?
appreciate any help
very important too, does someone know how much effective time does this calibration thing take?
thanks a lot in advance
regards
khalid

There are specifications on each lens. Either a lens meets those or else they don't meet them. If they don't meet them, then they need to be adjusted by the shop.

There are specifications on the body. Either the body meets those or else they don't meet them. If it doesn't meet them, then it needs to be adjusted by the shop.

If you are damned sure that the lenses are not the problem, then just send in the body to be adjusted.

Some points:

You can only send Canon lense for calibration.

Does the problem happen with all lenses? If it does then they only need the body.

Canon calibrate the body using their own standard lens.

If lenses have to be calibrated, they are set to specification, not to your camera.

Bob is absolutiely right on this. What Canon will do is calibrate the camera to factory specs using there own "standard" lens. If you give them your lens as well, they'll check them against your body and also make sure that they are within factory specs. If I were you, I would send the lenses out as well when you send out the body. AAMOF, that's exactly what I did a few weeks ago.

Khalid,

Have you examined the images from your Elan as closely as you have the 10D, i.e., at 100% magnification (if not greater) on a big monitor with your nose pressed against the screen? :) Unless you have, you can't be certain. Anyway the previous posters are correct, both cameras and lenses are set to factory specification.

I'm not sure how long it tok them to calibrate my equipment but they did have it for 10 days. I think the turnaround time is a little less but they were in their "busy season" when I brought it in so they quoted 10 days for the turnaround.
