400D RAW help

Hi...I just upgraded to a 400D..had been using a Nikon D70 and I always shoot in RAW as I do a lot of digital darkroom stuff. Thing is with the Nikon I could use RAW in all modes including 'auto' ..for some reason the 400D reverts back to jpg in 'AUTO' mode!...is there a reason for this...have I missed something and more importantly can I use RAW in 'AUTO'???...thanks

You cannot use raw in auto modes. Canon assumes that if someone get to use raw, they also want more control over the whole shooting process.

Sorry, adas is right. In Auto mode, you can't use RAW, however, you can use it in P mode, which is very close to Auto mode.

use the "P" mode. It's the closest thing to auto and you can use RAW.

I actually dont even know what other functions the 350D and 400D have other than M, Tv, Av, and occassionaly P. Well theres that green square and a bunch of stick figures. Whatever the hell thsoe do... :)

HA! I got mine using P... the green square sucks cause the pop-up flash always comes up when you dont want it to :D

She has taken some real nice pictures and is getting more interested in the camera each time she uses it. But the green box is as much as she wants to know right now.
