Hi all happy friday.. this weeks theme is about space. so bring out the wide angle or whatever you feel like shooting with and finding a composition showing open spaces, empty spaces, landscapes, skyscapes or whatever you're heart desires..
the rules are the same photos can be taken from sunrise on friday to sunset on sunday and posted around monday.. two shots is the forum limit so that's our limit as well.. unless you have a third shot that you really want to show.. Have fun, happy shooting.

Shooting Date/Time 2/9/2007 14:01:19 - I'm on the other end of the world and weekends come earlier. So do Mondays. ;)

Anyway after a long absence I return to WWPD.. :)

EOS 30D, 17-85 IS USM, f/8. This actually used to be a lake as you can see from the little brown muddy pool of water. Now that it's dried up, it becomes a wide open space.. sure doesn't look like a lake any longer!

I got up WAY early this morning to get to the beach for the sunrise and I'm so glad I did! It was gorgeous!

Thanks Sari! I posted a few more from this morning here. (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?p=2686195#post2686195)

WOW Becca!!! Are those boats on the horizon?

Crissa, those are the Isles of Shoals, a small group of islands about 10 miles off shore. I was suprised they even showed up but I guess when the air is that cold (it was 0F when I left home at 5am) its also pretty clear!

BeccaNH Awsome, gorgeous, outstanding

Sari Cool I'm liking the clouds coming over the mountains, good timing as I suspect to sun on the snow scape was soon covered by the clouds

LightStream Is this your usual dry period or worse than normal?

We took a day trip today, cabin fever, and LightStream's lake inspired me to take this shot of Lake Geneva, WI.

Yes that is a plane on the frozen lake, I am several yards from the shoreline out on the ice for this picture. Note the ice fishing shanties further out.

Becky.. I'm honored! :) love the plane and the vastness and how it's painted white - it complements the landscape well. I'm going out to try and get something a bit more 'vast' today :D

It's the worst dry season they've ever experienced.. I hope they do something about their water supplies soon.

Sari - landscape or cloudscape? :D now I see how you could have shot the barn with Chuck because the barn was so far away!

Becca.. I'm one of those photogs who will never see a sunrise because I am SOOOOOO lazy and can't be dragged out of bed whenever I have the opportunity to sleep in, but that was most certainly worth getting up for!

Great Shots Guys,

Temperature finally reached a tolerable level with no wind so headed out to the Lachine Canal where I got this shot.

Wonderful images everyone, but they make me feel very cold, except for Light..those make me feel very worried for the planet and the global craziness... So, although these look "warm" it is chilly (I won't say cold 'cuz the temp is nowhere near freezing, but in the mid 30's)....Winter in the desert of the Southwest of the USA. The Kelso sand dunes. Some of the biggest in the US..

There are some really nice shots here -- Sari and Becca, wow! Really - WOW!

I'm not going to be able to get to anything resembling a wide open space this weekend, but I'll see if I can find something to add when I can.

Didn't get out to my second choice for shooting today and the light was too flat anyway, so here another of frozen Lake Geneva. Guess this is where to go to avoid feeding the parking meters.

I'll have plenty of opportunities to get shots of open spaces later this week in Death Valley, but I wasn't able to go anywhere this weekend. So, I just took this quick shot for the thread. (You knew someone was going to do it, right?)

It's that horrible, horrible day of the year.... all the lovebirds are out snogging and us singles are left to hold the fort. (thankfully it's Thursday in my sector and the nonsense is over)

28mm sounds good. I need to stretch that 28/1.8 that has been sleeping since... last November. Hmm...I don't pay that lens to hibernate....

I could use the 28mm on my Tammy... ;) :p .. works for me. Nice and wide but not ultra wide... perfectly acceptable for portraits and landscapes.. and it would be similar to a "Prime" challenge.. which I think is good for you..

A focal length should brings some unusual perspectives, I like the idea...*looks at kit and thinks: 24-70 @28mm?*
Interesting

Actually, on a crop camera, closer to normal (28x1.6=44mm, nearly 50mm). Good portrait lens, definitely. You have a 28-105 you mentioned that you wanted to exercise as well.

28 is a good FL, because most of us will have it covered in zooms even if not in a prime. One can learn a fixed focal length as well, by setting a zoom to that FL and simply not changing it throughout the shoot.

oh yeah. shows how much attention that lens is getting.. I could probably make it D-day for the 28-105 and determine if I should sell it.

That's one way to go... for me it will pretty much be Decision Day for the primes too - if they don't shape up this weekend, they ship out...

And I buy a 17-55 IS USM ;)

I had an idea for the theme for that weekend. A repeat of a previous. We had a repeat of the original so I thought how about a repeat of them 1 to 10 or 11 to 20 or any of them. Then we could either choose one we did not partitipate in or we could choose one we did partitipate in with the twist that we should try to get the same photo with a different angle. Like different focallength aperture, time of day or whatever.

For this week 28 mm sounds fine. I got that lens and haven't used it as much as I should have.

Ok so it seems the theme is 28 mm. I will create the thread.
