I already ordered Gertrude Hawk chocolates for my sons in college today that will be delivered in 3 business days, I hope. They love those little smidgens.

My little boys are getting lots of candy and cards from friends at school.

Hubby is getting 2 nice cards, both thanking him for everything under the sun.

And I am hopefully, ordering my 1.4 extender  and getting cards from my hubby and boys and students.

It's the holiday for celebrating sweethearts. What is yours getting you?

I don't have a sweetheart, but I sent my nephew a $20 iTunes gift card and I'm getting myself a visit to my favorite day spa! :)

Spa treatment, a dream for me. I can't afford it here in VA. One of the teachers spent $1000 with her daughter for one day's worth of pampering. I can buy a 30D for that!

Ann's getting an SD600 (which she won't like, but she's going to Jordan and Egypt without me, so needs, like it or not, a small camera) and some DVDs. Can't remember if I have any jewelry stashed away for her. Mind you, this is also her birthday present since she's going to be away for that.

My girlfriend loves monkeys and I love personalized gifts so I combined the two. I ordered this from personalizedmall.com

I replaced the name Kim which is the stock photo name with her name which is Latanya.

Here it is:

Hell, I might get myself something that day by chance, but not on purpose. Haven't bought anything for anyone on Valentine's day since 2001. 8)

We don't bother. It is just become a commercial operation these days. I certainly wouldn't buy myself anything. Would rather surprise her with something special at any random time.

SuzyView
10th of February 2007 (Sat), 17:47
Commercial, yes. Can't go out to dinner, all the restaurants are full and service is usually terrible. But still, it's a festive holiday. Fun for those who can stand it.

Ronald, although I can't say I would love to have you as one of my many valentines (I teach over 120 kids this year), you are still tops in my book, and a sweetie.

Alicia, love the monkey. :) I got my sons Care Bears in pink and purple. They already love them.

A 5 day, 4 night trip to the mountains to stay at a 5 star hotel, with a 5 star restaurant, and wonderful Hot Springs to soak in :-) There is something very nice about relaxing for 8 to 10 hours in a nice hot spings pool, with snow on the ground around you.

If you get to warm, stand up for a moment. If your hair is frozen stiff, just dunk it under the hot mineral water for 5 seconds. After soaking all day, you go get a nice meal, then relax with nice glass of cognac, then sleep for 12 hour. Then repeat for the next 3 days ;-)

If you want a break, walk the 3 miles to the top of the mountain, and enjoy the view. Take the camera and tripod along, and get some great shots of the valley below, and the deers that are running around.

LOL. Thanks. We both enjoy going to the Hot Springs. They know me by name when I come thru the doors :-) I book 2 - 2 day romance packages back to back for 4 nights total. You get dinner in the restaurant, and champaigne breakfast in bed with each package. Then we walk a mile down the mountain to a pub in the small town for a evening.

Even durring the sumer they are a nice place to go. A couple humdred yards down from the hotel is a small waterfall and pool at the bottom that is feed by the Hot Springs. You can soak all day, and waive at the odd person who finds the trail, but isn't adventurous enough to jump in.

Evan, sounds great. Very romantic and all expenses accounted for. I can go for that, except, it's way too cold in Canada this time of year for me. It's 9 degrees here this morning and I can't get my house to warm up. Maybe for me, I'm getting an electric blanket for the family room. :)

For me I'm probably going to see the preview of 'Dreamgirls', stuff myself with popcorn & then home for a nice bath. Found I had bath soak stuff. :-)

The Hot Pools are 104 to 106 F so there is no problem with geting cold.
And the beds have Feather Duvets so you can snuggle up and stay warm all night long.

My poor boyfriend has a triple whammy. My birthday is on the 15th and our two month anniversary is on the 16th. I'll only be home for the anniversary so we're spreading the days out over the weekends when I'm home. No clue what I'm getting for any of the three but he's getting a book on massages since he sucks at them and probably some Ty Murray (cowboy) cologne.

Getting... hopefully some time to skate with a lady friend. But seeing as how things aren't exactly going peachy now, I'm not sure if this Valentine's Day will be exactly as planned. I have a watch for her...

Anyway, if it crashes and burns, which I almost fully expect it will, I still have an "Anti-Valentine's Day" party to head on to afterwards =)

Going to the local spa for this package:

Relaxing Retreat
We bring nature to the spa with our botanical-based treatments. You will receive the revitalizing treatment that your hands and feet deserve, maintaining good nail and cuticle condition. You will be sure to enjoy our soothing aromatherapy facial that will leave you skin bright and fresh.
- Hydaration Manicure
- Hydrating Pedicure
- Bella Facial with Vitamin C
- Zoya Nail Polish
(2 1/2 hrs)

I'm sure she'll like it. Now what should I get my wife?

Just kidding!!!

You wouldn't believe how many men get two (or more) romantic gifts. When my wife worked part time in the mall lingerie store, she had several gentlemen buy the same "outfit" in two different sizes and wrapped in two different boxes. (and it wasn't PJ's for mama if you know what I mean).

Dude, that really does suck. Aren't we singles supposed to band together on this day of evil too?

I have had a truly trying day too (Wednesday already here), looking forward to the single malt later. Crank up the music loud and read POTN.. we'll be here :)

However, B&H sends their love - their catalog was in the mailbox.

Oh, but then again, they only love me for my money :p

B&H is giving me a monopod for Valentine's Day - we are that much in love ;-)
All I gave B&H for Valentine's Day was some money - so I guess it works out. I was going to use that money to buy a monopod anyways....

I do find it interesting how many POTN members are single...

Yes, greatest gifts for myself, the B&H catalog! It is a beautiful thing and free! Can't beat that!

I love the heart shaped pizza, but I fear, like Ronald, I can't get a delivery. Too much snow and ice here. Ronald is not even living in the worst part of the dumping, but still. I wondered if global warming took a break and we are reminded that Mother Nature is still in charge. This is our 2nd snow day this week and all Valentine's Day parties are delayed. Bummer, but I have lots of food in the fridge, we still have electricity, the boys are all feeling better and I have another day to do my filing. I will go outside to shoot something. The snow is quite beautiful.

My Fiancee and I had planned to go to a fancy restaurant tonight. The kind of place that cost $70 a plate and has someone playing the piano as you eat. Strict dress code, expensive wine, ect....But, she came home crying last night.....the company she works for laid a few people off including her. So now we will probably stay home do to the lack of income until she gets another job. :(

I am a contract teacher so I have to be re-evaluated every year. It's really the way of the world these days. No commitments to an employer. I will never have a pension. Jobs come and go, just remember there are lots of golden opportunities out there for jobs if you work at it. I think being let go can be positive. If you are okay with a bad job, you never go out of your way to find something better. Good luck. And staying at home isn't too bad. For all the years my husband and I went out to fancy restaurants that ere overcrowded and service is bad, we are staying home tonight. I will probably have him pick up some food on the way home. Nothing romantic like years past, but still fun. And Dreamgirls is great! I saw the show on Broadway over 24 years ago.

Thanks, Maureen for the update. Congrats on the new computer. I bet you're very excited to PP in half the time. I love my Dell.

Ronald, my sister lives in Albany and they are expecting 2 feet. We got 1 inch of ice, which is worse than 8 inches of snow, I think. Everything is closed. And I doubt we'll have school this week. My kids are already on their DS having a great time. I think they are enjoying the snowday more than I am. I have still papers to sort through, but almost done. You guys have it bad up in NY. At least there are plenty of trucks out doing the plowing. Here in VA, there is nothing going on here on our street and icing is a real problem. 1 inch of ice and snow and schools are closed and driving is a disaster. A great way to spend Valentine's Day. :(

Much to my surprise, I think Ann's going to keep the SD600. She started out saying I should take it back, and that some of the places she's going to in Jordan and Egypt charge to bring in cameras but it'd get stolen if she left it in the room, but when I left she was reading the manual (via the PDF) and saying she'd never learn all the things it can do. And I think I've got her convinced that the cost of bringing the camera into a site is nothing compared to the overall cost of the trip! Plus she'd go crazy trying to use a disposable camera on the trip and manage 3 weeks with 24 frames.

just kidding. bought her a new diamond necklace, going out to dinner the same place we have been going every valentines day since we got together (ok, so that is only 3 years) but this is the first as being married

however she has the flu really bad and has stayed home from work the last couple of days even, so who know. I won't probably get anything from her, but i did buy my self the hood for the 70-300 IS USM lens and the BG-E3 grip for the XTi.

Ronald, I quit after about 10 feet by 20 feet done. There is a 1 inch layer of solid ice under the 4 inches of wet snow we got last night. The plow just went by, of course, not getting it all and making it possible for only one lane instead of two. What are they thinking? I was "plowed in" as usual as I am trying to leave for my son's piano lesson. My sweet neighbor volunteered her son to come over and shovel for me. I thought that was great. I gave him some lucky money and candy. He didn't want me to pay him, but really, Chinese New Year and all. :)

My honey got me some Godiva white and milk chocolate covered strawberries... YUM and she got me a big white teddy bear with a big seperate stuffed red heart from Brookstone. It is from their NAP collection and they are calming bears. It is sooooo soft. Also, she took me out to dinner at Bonefish Grill and I had the best lobster I have ever eaten in my life and man, I have eaten a lot of lobster!!! And I got balloons! All in all, it was great. Oh, she loved her monkey by the way. I also got her a sterling silver bracelet with diamond accents, a long stemmed red rose in a case, a card that sings love songs and I think that's it. :-)
