Did anyone see the Canon ad in the latest SI that just came out? They had a shot of all of their photographers at the Super Bowl using Canon gear and I just had to imagine what all that stuff cost put together. I was seriously having some lens envy looking at all of their "big boys" in the photo. Who wants to guess what all that gear cost?

If you want to be impressed by lenses go to B+H and look at the shelves behind the counter. Try not to yell out "Oh, dear God".

The ad in question is a one page ad that appeared in SI, USA TODAY, et al.

How do you know all white lenses are Canon and not mearly that one guy out there using Minolta glass still? All Minolta APO-G glass was white too.

I don't think Sony carried over too many of the great Minolta gems. Minolta had a full line of super-tele's at one point, sure they didn't always have IS or an equiv. to the USM focus, but if you gave me one, I'd likely be sure to find a used KM-7D or a100 to shove on the back. They were some fine lenses.

Because these were professionals at the Super Bowl.
That's my guess.

I didn't see Nikon got Red Lines on thier glases, and sure we can identify Canon lenses than others because we are Canon bloody growing

(Off topic - This morning I got my arse handed to me, when a 60some year old photographer emailed me a scan of his Pentax K-1000 35mm photo, that he took right by me in Yosemite Valley last week, as I used all my Digital super duper technology. His insight into the landscape was magical, while mine was hurried, and dettached. Nothing like a little humiliation to bring one further desire to learn and continue to practice).

Does his age mean something? Maybe he has more experience? Not sure why you included his age?

I would be most grateful (and I'm sure I speak for many here).
Not sure why you included his age?
Because he probably wants us to infer that the bloke has alot of experience due to his age. Quite reasonable, if you ask me.

That was what I was asking. It would make sense if he is older, maybe he is more experienced. A good guy maybe to learn from? I'd like to see the two pics comparing the differences. Cool for the OP to see and admit the differences. :)

My guess would be because Canon is better in terms of image quality, speed, autofocus, etc.
Tell me if I'm wrong though. I'm just guessing that would be the reason.

Awesome. How did they do that? Come on, they HAD to set that up, not a single "other" lens in the crowd, not a chance by random. Odd to see blue rings, and one had a red ring and the ring must have been over an inch wide. Way cool picture.

Canon is an official sponsor of the Super Bowl. I'm sure they have areas inside the stadium set aside for Canon photographers. Also, given the fact that kick-off was at 6:30 PM EST and it was raining, the photograph was clearly taken much earlier in the day and/or at one of the press functions leading up to the event.
As for the other guy's comment RE: age...don't worry about it. Why does everyone have to be so darn sensitive about someone stating a fact. If it is not material to the story, don't get your dander up and grow a thicker skin. I'm sure it was nothing personal.

Awesome photo. Notice how they all have a super telephoto in one hand attached to a monopod, and then a secondary body on their neck with like a 24-70L or something? Interesting if you ask me.

I also noticed the taped focus rings on the big teles. I do not think I will be taping my newly arrived 70-200 IS 2.8 anytime soon, specially with what seems to be Duct Tape.

These guys could probably care less about their gear, replacing it is probably the least of their worries. SI is huge. Look at how the guys are holding some of the lenses in the photo. So relaxed, with one hand just around the tripod collar platform. Amazing.

I actually sent my resume-portfolio to SI recently, and I got an amazing letter back. They said they were THANKFUL for my submission, and that they would FILE my personal information for the next THREE YEARS, and if there ever was a need for photographers with my qualifications, that they will DEFINITELY give me a call.
Man, I haven't quit my job yet, but I have my two weeks notice all typed up.

For football, the 24-70 is a great end zone lens, when you want a little bit wider. But for SI guys, they'll have usually that 70-200 around with them as well.

Yeah, they need to cover quite a bit of range.
The 1Dses around their necks are usually reserved for when the action plays right up to their doorstep.
Peter Read Miller's main tool is the 400 f/2.8. He says he also has a 600 f/4 which is great for 'getting right into the player's faces'. He also brings a 70-200 f/2.8 for closer action. Finally, he often carries a body around his neck with a 24-105 for when the action gets real close.

Soccer Tareq (oops, football to the rest of the world?) Actually football much better describes soccer than football does to US football. How did we ever copy the name anyway? It isn't like there weren't other choices, or we didn't-know the word was sued for soccer around the world.
